According to a recommendation from a photo lab, in order to have good looking resolution on printouts you need certain minimum pixel counts as follows:

4R -- 1024x768
5R -- 1200x800
6R -- 1280x1024
8R -- 1600x1200

If you resolution is below the recommended pixel count, you can still print, except that interpolation and pixelixation will kick in and your photo will not look nice, if look at it too closely.
