Default E420/E520 images look like the E3?

Hell yeah. I took the kids out for the weekend and used a familiar lens, the Panaleica 14-50. The OOC jpegs at low ISO look exactly like the E3.

I tested the 510 once in the shop. I decided not to buy it because the built quality was terrible. The 520 doesn't remind me of the terrible aftertaste I had with the 510. I think Olympus has bumped up build quality. The LCD reminds me of the terrible ones mounted on the E3, but on closer scrutiny, it does appear to have better tonal range. I can't do a direct comparison as my E3 is still at the Oly center.

It's nice and light. I might not have bothered with the E3 if the 520 walked up and said hi first. I bought mine in Tokyo two weeks ago. It's to tide me over until Olympus finish calibrating my E3, we'll part our ways when that day comes.

What happen to your E3? Different sensor producing the same quality of image ...... fishy.

My E3 had a front focus problem that became apparent with the Panaleica 25/1.4. The body and lens were both sent to Japan for calibration. The process so far has taken more than a month.

Fishy...but nice, especially for a camera that came at less than half the price with a lens.

Which IS are you using? Body IS or Lens IS?

Body IS. I can't see a difference between the two. So, I use the body IS out of convenience.

Isn't front/back focus problems usually assosiated with the lens and not the body? Which is why the same body may not have any front/back focus problems with other lenses but only with a particular lens. The lens therefore have to be calibrated to the body which would mean in your case, have to be calibrated by Panasonic and not Olympus.

Not really fishy if you realised that the sensor used in the E420/520 is the same one used in the E3.

That is what comes in my mind too. Perhaps over production of sensor.

That was what I thought. Unfortunately, after changing three lenses, still the same results.

Hmmm. I did a quick google and found no rumours about the E3 and 420/520 using the same sensor.

How did you managed to change 3 lenses? I thought the Leica 25mm is as rare as hen's teeth here or anywhere else. Anyway, my E3 has no problem with the Leica 25mm.
It's not a rumour. I was told by someone very high up in Olympus Singapore.

You go to Panasonic. They send in a new lens in a week. Two were tested by Panasonic, one was borrowed from a friend. This problem has been stretching out for months now.

You can't get the 25mm even in Tokyo. I checked with Yodobashi and the waiting time is at least one month.

I bought the 520 to tide over while my E3 is at the service center. I got the call to collect my E3. Besides, I am selling my underused gear towards a M8.

Does that mean that they have solved your front focussing problem with the Leica 25mm lens?
