the pictures were of the same subject and taken under similar lighting? otherwise it's really not probable to do a comparison.

Yes, same object (a small Matchbox car), distance, location and lighting conditions. Using a tripod and print with HP Photosmart printer. Like I said, Nikon's optics is slightly better than the Sigma, I would like to stress that it's IMO. The build quality of Nikon is also better than Sigma IMO .

And again, because it's a Nikon, the price is much more, so I am sort of in a fix which one to get as the difference of the "quality of optics" between the 2 model is marginal.

Maybe I should chocho the shop to let me do another thorough test on both the lenses...

Buy Nikon if you want to stop yourself from upgrading later.

    Hi AJ23,

If you're refering to the Nikon 105mm Micro 2.8, then I should say Sigma is sharper based on the MTF testing on www.photodo.com

    Nikon 105mm scores 3.9
    Sigma 105mm - 4.1
    Canon 100mm - 4.2
    Tamron 90mm SP - 4.3
    Tokina 100mm - 4.6 (SHARPEST)

In my opinion, the ratings on photodo.com are very accurate when it comes to optical quality since they only concentrates on the quality of the glass (color, weight, AF speed and noise are excluded from that measure).

One thing I can say, all of them are very good glasses!
    Good luck to your buy!

    Sgt. Pepper,

I've read the reviews, and then go down to test, but then contrary to the reviews, so I'm still scratching my head. Maybe it's my eyes. To solve my problems, maybe I shouldn't buy yet, I go chocho my fren to lend me his lenses.

IMHO...if macro is your choice of "specialisation" in photography...go ahead with the OEM prime. It may or may not be better but at least the price will be justified.

Casual shooters and the budget minded can benefit from the lower costs of the 3rd Party alternatives.
