Default Simple Lighting Setup with E510

hi all,

Need advise on lighting setup!

Currently want to take some 'studio-like' shots of my work like printed materials / packaging / etc in my office. Probably some portraiture too. Am thinking of doing a simple set up of softboxes / strobes / lighting stuff.

Anyone used a e510 with this setup before? Pls advise! thanks!

It doesn't matter what camera is used for this (even if it's film) as it's the lighting setup that's important...check out the following for useful lighting lessons (free, online, no registration required, unless you want to try to win the E-420):

Now they mostly concentrate on using strobes (since it's sponsored by a lighting manufacturer) but you can substitute flashes...personally for the smaller stuff I use an FL-36 on one or two FL-CB05 cables, and a second flash that's triggered optically via a slave; I almost never use the internal flash though. Another option is using compact fluorescents if you set the white balance correctly.

You can go the cheap bast*rd route, that is, using cheap flash and triggers

I've used SB (nikons) and i think they're one of the nices.

Next post shows one of the cheapest attempts I have tried to do:

- Cheap assed avatars (Got them like 20 SGD at cathay photo)
- Ebay trigger (PT-04 works)
- Umbrella holder
- Diffusion umbrella
- 40 cent namecard holder velcroed to the flash. This is to hold those Apollo/Roscoe gel samplers onto the flash.
- Cheap light stand.

You can get spigots to hold the flash to standard tripods as well if you don't have light stands.

Roughly whole thing costs abt 60$ or so.

You can also combine multiple flashes for more power.
Disadvantage of these kind of flashes, no manual control of power lah, but if you are willing, control them using Neutral Density gels to stop down the power.

How about setting it up with my FL50r mounted on a stand and use it as a slave. Guess it would reduce some costs? If so, what stand / bracket for the FL50R is compatible? Thank you.

I can really tell cos it does look a little like a clear plastic pass-holder - in which case I'm really curious to know what it's for!

Ah I don't use it for diffusion, the pockets provided by the pass holder is perfect for slotting in those sampler gels by roscoe/apollo.
