Of course you should have a polarizer on you (if you never tried one you should get one and then you can answer that question yourself), but I don't think that's the question you wanted to ask.
I think you wanted to ask if you should have a UV filter. While the debate goes on regarding effects, at higher altitudes it is recommended (assuming you're going up into the mountains while you're there) to cut down the UV, not to mention protecting your lens (which is another can of worms). |

Thanks for the quick reply. No, I really wanted to ask about the polarizer. I already have a UV on. In fact, it is permanently on my 12-60. I stopped using polarizer for quite some time now cos of the problem of vignetting when stacked with the UV (I am too lazy....) and also, the trouble. I have been using without a polarizer for nearly a year now, but mostly in tropical countries and have not seen any need to use one. So I was wondering how essential it is for a Swiss trip, particularly with possibility of snow? Haiz...I think I will just pack one in the luggage as an available option if I need it.

By all means bring one but IMHO use of Pol depends on the circumstances, the result you desire and personal taste.

From personal experience a PL is essential for snow scenes...
Helps to prevent the snow from washing out any becoming nothing but a white mass... I'd advise you to use your UV when shooting general stuff and the PL for landscapes. Try not to screw on the filters too tightly and take off the UV when you use the PL, that way you're not stacking the filters and you'll get better performance and less vignitting. Please bring your PL - the very last thing you want to feel is to be there and not have it when you need it - you'll kick yourself for that~!!
