In case anyone is interested, firmware version 1.2 for E-3 is released. Big disappointment...

My thought: This WB update may address banding issue. What say u guys?

What about current outstanding issues involving C-AF capability/performance and HLD-4 power inconsistency?

Possible. In ALL the images I have seen with banding, the WB was wrong. As a matter of fact, you may be on to something. Maybe the people who got banding used AWB. I use manual WB and not seen banding except at ISO3200 underexposed and corrected with PS and now that you say, I actually had the wrong WB set. Indeed, it may improve banding.

Updated mine. While I get the impression AWB is better, one thing I noted was that One touch WB works in the environment I never got it working before. I am still not impressed byt AWB and the difficulties of geting a WB reading where I had no problems at all with my former E-500, but once the camera read the WB the colours are really nice.

Also, maybe as a result, I find with the WB set properly there is no banding at all, not even at ISO3200. Maybe it is in my head only, but I have a feeling that those people who have banding issues also used AWB. I noted that with improper WB settings, not only the colours which are wrong, but the whole exposure. I think it is incorrect to say that WB does not matter as long as one shoots raw. I always shoot raw and my experience is that the more parameters are right from the start the better the final image is. That includes even WB.

Anyway, I am not very impressed with this firmware update, but it worked. My camera is updated and still works. It is better than before, but still there is work to do for Oly concerning AWB if AWB is supported. I'd however be very glad if they could at least fix the One touch WB to the level of the E-500, which worked 100% of the time, and in fact I never saw the error message before I bought the E-3. I never knew such message existed.
