SiSoft Sandra Max benchmarks for my P4-M 1.8Ghz nb.

The Pentium M 1.4GHz CPU (part of the Centrino Mobile Technology) clearly outperforms the Pentium 4M 1.8GHz CPU.

I did side by side real life tests against the Toshiba TE 2100 and P6100 fitted with 2.4Ghz processors and my lil centrino 1.4 Ghz was faster than the TE 2100 and a tad slower than the P6100 when chunking through 40MB Tif files with Photoshop 7.
