Default Holiday photos using 7D, 7.5mm Minolta, 18-50 Sigma, 75-300 minolta

Hello...

Here is my trip to Peru, US and Canada last year...

Images can be viewed here on Here

Just a summary of the experience with the 3 lenses...
Minolta 7.5mm f4 FE is by far the most interesting lens to use. It is extremely wide and great sharpness and great to create unusual images.

Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX
Lightweight large aperture lens which is pretty sharp wide open and good coverage for wide angle. However, AF is a little painful with 7D. For what it worth, the newer Macro version might have improved in AF speed.

Minolta 75-300
good reach, cheap and reasonably sharp lens when shoot at f8, best thing is, it is very very light.

Regards,

Hart

Very nice, Mr Agetan....

How would you compare the Minolta 7.4 FE with the Peleng 8mm FE (which I have)?

Also, have you tried "de-fishing" any of you FE shots? I find Fisheye Hemi pretty good, but needs some getting used to...

hello...

I use peleng before... unfortunately, I don't really like the lens. I sold it off after testing it for 2 occassions.

Bough the FE about 2 years ago and haven't looked back since. I have looked through a lot of alternative for Alpha mount and I settle down with this Minolta 7.5mm f4 FE.

Not really a big fan of de-fishing.. as it defeat the purpose of it. If I need non fish eye image, just use wide angle lens for it.

If not wide enough, just stitch.

Regards,

Hart

I bought and sold the Peleng in Sydney some years ago.

Mainly, I felt let down by the colour and the sharpness of the Peleng. But that's the copy I had, I might have lemon then.... however, I wouldn't know.

Regards,

Hart

The peleng is the fisheye of choice for the common man.

From my experience, it is WIDE (watch your toes!!!) and has very strong (almost excessively saturated) colors. It's biggest flaws is very poor flare control.

Remember to turn off your SSS (Super Steady Shot - for Sony) or Anti-shake when using this lens because I find that due to the lack of electronic communication with the Camara, the SSS over-compensates for movement (I read that when the camera does not electronically detect the lens, it automatically treats the attached lens as a 50mm) and can ruin shots taken at low shutter speeds. I was very surprised at the low-light capabilities of this lens. Took some funny candids of my family members at f5.6 1/10 second at the esplanade area (the only lighting was from the drink sellers stall).

Do a search on the internet and you'll find many positive / honest reviews.
