ouch~ sorry to hear that..didn't drop my camera before so can't really advise..

as to "what to do" .. the first thing i would do is cry..
Couldn't really see from your photo..but what thing broke? The lens hood? and the filter?
any other elements broken? if there are loose part that might fall out anytime, then perhaps you shouldn't mount the lens to the body anymore ..if not loose parts that fall out might do more harm to the camera ..like.. scratch the sensor maybe..

your set still under warranty? No harm bringing for checkup at Sony if it is.. Good luck!

First thing I would do is pick it up, inspect it, then take some test shots to make sure that it is ok.
If it works, then it is ok

Yes i've done that all seem ok but not too sure if the sensor and stuff like dat will affect the quality of the pic taken in future. Tink better bring down to Sony for a inspection.

Damage? The glass filter and the ring actually got stuck to the lens and i could not turn is out. But i would say the body is quite sturdy so far only s few scratches, didn;t feel anything loose in it.

Wonder how much will they 'Sony' charges me for the inspection for the body and lenssweat:

R.I.P.

(rest in pieces)

Just kidding. The Sony cameras and lenses are tougher than you think. Take pictures, maybe 20, then take a close look at them on a PC. Look ok? Then no worries.

If you bring it down, Sony usually does these checks for free. Their technicians are ok to talk to (they'll call you up and ask for details if they need any).

send in to Sony, normally Sony built design is strong enough to withstand some impacts.

Assuming nothing else broke.

Just Remove the broken glasses from the filter to avoid scratch to the front elements.
Do a zooming check and do a focus check to see if anything is wrong. As for the hood, i thing the service center may sell spare replacements.

As for the stuck filter, clear all glass pieces, then use a pvc or rubber material to grip the ring and turn anti-clockwise to remove filter ring.

the durability also depends on the model i suppose since only the A700 has a magnesium body

As long as the front element is not scratch you should be fine.

It looks like your glass filter and your hood has absorbed the shock. Unless you find it hard to turn the focusing/zoom ring (or feel something broken)

I dropped my camera (in the Lowe Pro bag somemore) and the front filter on my 17-35mm shattered... saved the lens but now when I look back at my older photos, the accident seemed to have shaved off some accuracy in the AF... sending it in to repair is quite a pain...

Update on my repair; Sony technician from Tuas called me and advice to repair my lens (kit lens (17-80) cost = $150 plus

i told him it is ok just return me back the lens; collect from Sony bishan kana charge $10.70 for service and transport charge fair enough

So far was unable to tell if my picture quality is affected cos my camera was still pretty new when i drop it. So maybe if i got a chance might post something and bro & sis here probably can spot and advice me.

Go a shop and try another kit lens... then use yours to test... take the same shot and see if the effect is the same... if the lens is screwed you might as well buy a new one and the shop will be willing to lend you to try... or meet up with someone here and try their copy.
