Default To E-520, or E-510?

I'm a beginner to SLR, and looking to buy a entry level DSLR. My criterias are basically (lower) cost, and ease of use. I was looking at E-520 but it looks like this will not be out at the PCShow2008. From the papers, the promotion was for E-510 with Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm and Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm lens for SGD 1299. I will like to ask for your advise, whether I should take this offer, or wait for E-520? I'm not sure in what ways the E-520 is more superior to the E-510...so any advise is appreciated.

Thank you!!

this shld be posted in the 4/3 forum, but from what I understand,E-520 has a 0.2 inch larger screen than E-510,0.5 fps faster than E-510,face detection in live view and better autofocus in live view(not really sure about this one but the rest pretty much sure),I'm using E-510 and it sure has served me well,no complains except it's size, than again,I'm huge so what do I know?

As a E510 user, I love this cam. But I think it will be better if u can wait for E520, although I am not a E520 user, I will suggest to wait for a newer system will be a better choice. that my own opinion. You may want to visit four third system forum for more infor

The sensor has been improved quite a bit in the E-520 over the E-510, so there shouldn't be a good reason to buy the E-510 at this point. I believe you can do some direct comparisons between the E-410 and E-420 and come to the same conclusion.

I think the comparison between E510 and E520 is small as E520 only offers few better features and improved version. Other than that, both looks the same and share the similar settings.

It's different from comparing E3 and E510....then we all knows E3 is a clear winner here considering that E3 has A LOT more features than E510 (for example, E510 max ISO 1600...E3 max ISO 3200)

But E510 and E520?
well...i think you can save a lot of $$$$$ and avoid heart break knowing that E510 price will drop when E520 is launch later. Probably....some E510 users will start selling their unit and you can get a good deal from there..

save the extra $$$$ and buy more lens....hahahaha...

I have a "side" question. Since the size of the sensor use by the E510, E3 & E520 are all 4/3 in size, even if I am able to pump up to a higher ISO ( 3200 ) would that produce more noise? Any one can comment on the noise control of the E3 compared to the E510 or other mid-range DSLR ( 40D, D300, etc)? Thanks.

I hate to confess this but i did stupid NOOB mistakes while playing around with my E3 yesterday. I program MyMode1 to ISO 400 & MyMode2 to ISO 800. I took pics without knowing that im in Aperture Mode, Mymode1 & 2 till I scroll on the mode, so pics are taken at ISO 100,400 & 800 with AWB. Do an enlarge to see if u find noise & kindly excuse for this stupid mistake. Anway Im only an amateur in photography, pls excuse if u think pics are badly taken. I think E3 really did some good job in controlling noise and exposure is mostly correct for some is set to +0.7 EV .......... accidentally. link : http://dnl2.no-ip.info:8080/gallery/album45.htm

Another good reason to wait for E520. Refer to the link and read till the end. If it is according to what tomcat has mentioned, Olympus is gonna out perform any of its rivals around the same price range or even higher. Chill down Oly, u dont need to be so serious.

I just switched from using other dslrs to the E-520, no experience with the E-510 but E-520 has impressive dynamic range (look at the shadows in the 1st picture) and excellent metering against backlit objects. All I did was press the shutter button, didn't have to think so hard. If I used another brand of dslr, I'd have to fiddle around with the settings to get the same results. These are out of the camera jpgs with the 14-42mm kit lens, unedited except for resizing.
The camera factory default is set only at Fine not Superfine and Standard Noise filter may be too strong at low ISOs, giving the false impression that the kit lens is unsharp. All this can be customized by digging into the menus.

i now using E520 great pic see to belive but too bad i had to let go as i buy & sell 81061381.

Buy fast before gone.

E-520 has increased, compared to its predecessor, and is now close to the level of the E-3.
