haha well, what camera you used?
advice 1. well the noise looks pretty high, so along with the tripod advice, you might wanna lengthen the exposure timing and reduce the iso settings =] advice 2. hmm too me it feels as if the color balance is a little off to the yellowish side, so.. you can do some editting to change it to the more accurate color you saw in ur eyes, unless thats the theme u wanted to achieve =] |

its a pretty decent shot, if its the first time u shoot at night, without a tripod.
being warm (yellowish inclined) is fine, but u must make sure the yellow makes the photo stand out and special. if it is just an ordinary shot, its better to make it a bit colder. another advice on your composition, u should exclude the water a little and incline more sky. at the bottom of the photo, the water seems too close to viewer, and that makes it a "lay man" photo. nevertheless, a good try.

seems to me that the water is more focus rather than the condos.

choice of white balance is pretty free to interpretation - many others have mentioned the tilt and the composition already, being new i guess you need a context why the tilt is wrong here.
do not think as a result that tilt is bad for every photo, but there is a difference between what zoosshh here would call a dynamic tilt , i like that term.. basically it is a tilt that works. and of course there is a tilt that looks like a mistake and probably is goign to be interpreted as a mistake. the tilt here is more of the second. as for how to get dynamic tilt, as a rule of thumb, you need dramatic tilting to get dynamic tilts.. simple explanation is that a little looks like you didn't intend it, while a lot probably shows that you mean it and did it deliberately. either that or done when extremely drunk. in any case, even then there are matters of composition to be considered. to be fair i think it is good that you are trying to play with the rule of thirds here, whether consciously or not is another matter. horizon is bottom third vertical, the tower.. cannot remmeber the name but i used to, is it cozy bay or something.. is also along another third. what is the problem here is a mixture of perspective and framing and timing. the tower does not seem to stand out here, it probably will at an earlier timing because of light. keep shooting! and yes, a tripod is almost essential for night photography. even a cheap one will do. |
