Default Meter problem?

Hi all,

I've recently borrowed a Konica Autoreflex TC-X RF from a friend. I think there might be some problems with the meter.

I set my film speed to 400 (i've a TMAX inside), and put the aperture dial on the lens to AE, and turn on the meter (with a working battery of course). The meter seems to only respond (moves to overexposure warning) when i point it directly at the ceiling light, and stays at F8 at other subjects even in pitch dark, when its obvious that it is underexposed. Changing the shutter speed also doesn't seem to affect the meter (still stays at F8 at random objects and overexp warning when pointed at ceiling light), be it 1/8 or 1/1000.

I would like to know if this meter is spoilt, or is there a certain shutter speed that the aperture meter only works with? Thanks!

The meter is perhaps spoilt from old-age and/or lack of use.
My SLR's metering needle is totally lifeless although it is only about 20 years old.

You could send it for repair at Camera Hospital, not sure if they can do anything about it.

brought it to de camera consultant recently. Mr Tay from there inspected the camera. Turned out the battery compartment was corroded due to a previous leak. Guess i'll have to use manual from now on...
