Default Pedra Branca diving any good?

Hi,

With the recent ruling on PB and the Joint Committee set up to look into its use, I was wondering whether anyone has dived at PB waters and whether it make sense to raise a petition to allow recreational diving?

I know the visibility may not be that great and the current may be strong and you risk being run over by a super-tanker. But hey, its a nearby location and in Singapore waters.

Any comments from anyone who has been there or know something?

Though SG is awarded the sovereignty of PB I do not think you can dive in the water around it. For security, diplomatic and safety reasons PCG and RSN will probably ask you to leave.

Horsburgh lighthouse is a vital installation.
Used to patrol the area during my National Service as a Coast Guard.
You definitely won't be allowed in the area to dive.

Now that ownership has been resolved, and as both countries are working to jointly govern that area, and as they are allowing fishing to carry on there, why not diving? I guess we can always raise this with the Joint Committee in a public letter.

Its worth it if the visibility and current is good for diving. If visibility is bad and current is surging, then maybe not worth it to mention.

Regards.

With regards to your post, I'll quote my post again.

Due to this reason would be good enough to warrant no diving.
Not to mention that it'll be hard to say when your boat will float over to the Malaysian side since Middle Rocks are nearby.
South Ledge is normally hidden by the sea.
If you don't really know the area, mishaps may happen.

I was in the Navy more than 10yrs ago..... and I saw Pedra Branca more than I wanted to. Even on a good day..... I would recommond a 'Swim', much less a dive.
