Hi all,
AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED lens is soft at f/2.8, then what is the point of getting it? (Eh... well, I just got mine lah...) I mean, for low lighting condition, preferably if we can shoot at f/2.8 and below lah, but if at f/2.8 is soft, and only at f/4 it's sharp.... then how? ![]()

should be sharp at 2.8. at least that is what I heard, did you do a test on it to rule out handshake, movement blur etc etc?

get it checked. it is very sharp even at f2.8.
try shooting at something a few meters away, you can tell it's very sharp. |

Test for back/front focussing. Maybe the lens was not calibrated properly.

not sure how did you come to this conclusion, could you try this; mount your cam on a tripod, set F2.8 and take a shot, then set F11 and take a similar shot. Compare the two, and share with us your finding? Last edited by CT 3833; 5th June 2008 at 08:57 PM. |

haha, i think i might know wats the problem, i did try my 80-200mm 2 touch and try the same pic as you. the problem back focus, why? cause u never read ur camera manual.
"8 If AF 80–200 mm f/2.8S, AF 35–70 mm f/2.8S, new-model AF 28–85 mm f/3.5–4.5S, or AF 28–85 mm f/3.5–4.5S is zoomed in while focusing at minimum range, image on matte screen in viewfi nder may not be in focus when in-focus indicator is displayed. Focus manually using image in viewfi nder as guide." Try a subject at least 2-3meters away and try again.
