Default IS on E-510 help!

Hi,

How to make IS work?

hold on to IS button in live view mode (this is what I know so far)? from what I know is when you hold on to the button during live view, you should hear a motor running sound and this will make IS works.

I try switch on IS in live view mode and not hold the IS button, IS doesnt work at all.

what if i am using viewfinder, can IS still works? (when using view finder, you will not be able to hold on to IS button as it will switch to IS selection screen)

Just switch on IS, will IS really work without the motor sound?

any one can advise me on this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Guy try this,

switch on your IS,
use a tele lens with long focal,
use live view and digital zoom 7x or 10x,
you shd see a shaky image,
press and hold your IS button, you shd hear some sound from the body and I believe you normally dun hear it. E-510 can hear it clearly and as for E3, you have to hear it really close.

question is, IS running without press and hold?

any one know?

yes! it work even without press and hold.

Hope that i understand your question, firstly switch on the IS mode by pressing the "IS" button on your right side of the LCD screen.

For E-510 there is mode 1 and mode 2, choose mode 1. This mode is for camera shake compensation.

choose a slightly dark place and switch it to shuttle priority and set it to around 1/4 - 1/16 sec shuttle speed. when you press the shuttle button, under this speed of shuttle, you'll be able to hear the motor running while taking the picture, this mean that your IS is working in progress. The one you mention above is a testing IS in live view mode.

I read all your replies and I'm still blur, but from what I can see, this is my answer la.
IS works whether or not you're using live view or view finder, however,to see the effects of IS in REAL TIME,it only occurs when Live View is on,the whining sound is from the IS motors moving,so I believe IS won't work without motor sounds, new one probably has very soft sound, but a more seasoned E-510 has that sound for sure

you can oli hear the motor sound if you are using low shutter speed. definitely not on high shutter speed. do a test, on your IS and using low shutter speed and you shd hear some motor sound. off your IS and use the same low shutter speed, there shdnt be any motor sound. I think it doesnt matter old or new set.

BTW till now then i know how IS works... haha

Ha ha ha,I heard the sound with IS from when I just got my E-510 many months back, almost 9 months if I'm not wrong, never bothered me with it's motor sounds,as long as everything is in order and it's working the way it should be,than I'm happy

The IS motor sound is heard only when its in 'action'. So turning on IS doesnt get the motor started or anything.

When you hold the IS button down, you are basically getting the IS to work.
When you shoot at a low shutter with the IS switched on, you will here the motor only when you shoot, not during idle or focusing.

IS only comes into play during capture or when you force it to see the diff.

It should be working that way. Else it will drain the batteries a lot.

to hold a IS button during "Live View" mode is to see how the IS work, it is that simple stuff. maybe try this camerlabs from the you tube he can tell you more about the E-510

Yes no need to hold IS button. That is why if we are talking shuttle speed like 1/30 ~ 1/10 second you can still hardly hear the motor moving(because it is still quite fast) which is already working to compensate the camera shake. If you tune the shuttle speed to 1/4 ~ 1 second, you can actually hear the motor moving this time; give it a try. Sorry if i sound a bit naggy... ...
