Have a few questions regarding this, would appreciate if someone more familiar with the D300 series could help me (isisaxon?
)1. MB-D10 allows the D300 to shoot 8FPS if there are AA batteries or EN-EL4a/EN-EL4 in the grip. However, are you required to leave the EN-EL3e in the camera? I would think that for the AA batteries, yes, but I am unsure of the EN-EL4/EN-EL4a. Would like to use the D300 like my old cameras, just one EN-EL4a in the grip with no EN-EL3e in the body hence this question. 2. Should I wish to use a MB-D10+EN-EL4a for the D300 I would be required to buy:
Am I correct in this? Last edited by chanjyj; 3rd June 2008 at 11:22 AM. Reason: Typo |

for number 2, yes if u wanna use EN-EL4a, u got to buy the EN-EL4a, battery charger for EN-EL4a, and a cradle for the EN-EL4a to be put in the battery grip. battery is already abt $140++, battery charger of course is expensive around $100 if i not wrong or is it more? cradle i think is abt $30, total u are looking at is $250!!!! just to use that battery... totally not worth it if u ask me...

if he use to have D2, than it would be cheaper since he would have the charger and battery already. 340 + 60 = 400 thereabouts to top up.

BL3 is around 50~70 depending on postage/shops Yes, you will need the 4 items to use together. |

Now I have to go buy the damn-able grip, cradle, and damned battery. Otherwise it is kiss D2x goodbye and leave her to sit stagnant and rot. |

either way 1 is going to rot, so you might as well decide on what you want

Well.. ask yourself do u shoot at 8 fps all the time? If yes.. then your $250 investment on the batt is worth it.. else.. just use AA batt.
I have the grip, but never shoot at 8fps.. therefore just got a normal EL3 batt and used it for extended batt life.

Yes, with 1x EN-EL4a in MB-D10, the D300 can shoot 8fps.
Unless you already have the charger for the EL4, you will be much better off using AA batteries. I'm using AA batteries with the adapter that comes with MB-D10 to achieve 8fps....saved me...let me count, perhaps $400+? and I get the same result - 8fps. |

Meaning you can also use 6AA batt to shoot at 8fps without any batt inside the camera body?
Like very troblesome to charge the batt inside the camera with grip on. Need to unscrew out the batt grip... |

Actually I have been thinking more to the point of
"Is it more worth it to get D3 for 11FPS" (D3 becomes main camera, D300 secondary but lose some cash) or "More worth it to buy the damn grip, battery etc" (D300 becomse main camera, D2x secondary camera and save some $6k) Anyway this is a question I will have to answer myself ultimately. I don't mind noise, so the advantage of the D3 is not very relevant right now. The only thing I might need the D3 for is its ability to use my older FX lenses without crop, the reduced mirror slap and also the faster 51pt 3D autofocus tracking (the D300 is not as snappy!) Anyway thanks all for your input. I am pretty satisfied with the consistent answers to my 2 questions. I will leave this thread open, however, for other people who might have anymore questions on the MB-D10. Last edited by chanjyj; 3rd June 2008 at 10:28 PM. |

I would say sell both and top up to get the D3.

Although I used to be rather famous at which the speed I used to change lenses... (and nearly killing some in the process
)I have gotten rather lazy and prefer to leave a telephoto on one body and another lens on the other (usually the 17-55 or a wide angle, 50mm for the D2x if the light gets terrible). |

yup u can shoot with only the AA on grip...u can leave the body compartment empty if you like.
Anyway, you can set the batt order, so I always have a EN-EL3e in body as backup, while i switch the grip batteries between AA and EN-EL3e, like changing rifle magazines...haha. I've learnt the hard way how lenses can be destroyed if u change lens too fast, overconfidence...its a fine line between skilful professional and being too rash and overconfident, but anyway its ur own gear..haha. |

Alot of different vests in the market. You can get the ultra expensive DOMKE vests (which I feel are not worth it), the "copycat" safrotto vest (Around $60-$80), or you can use the ones which Nikon/Canon sponsor you.
Personally, I find the Canon/Nikon ones the best, out of the 2, the Nikon is the best. Damn, I can throw 2 AF-D 80-200mms into the side pockets! it is THAT spacious. |
