Question regarding Nikon D80..

I have posted in this section about D80 before.. but I haven't bought it as of yet but will very soon. (not sure if this is a wrong section to post this)

I've went a few place today to enquire about the price of Nikon D80 kit. Only 3 places let made me satisfied with their customer service.. but none of the shops seem to have a demo set for me to try with =\ (either that or they think I'm not a serious buyer).

First was an offer at TK foto. Was quoted $1,500 for Nikon D80 kit with all the freebies included in Nikon Great Sale (umbrella, lowepro bag, lenspen klear, 4GB SD + HC card reader, tripod) and an optional SB-600 for an extra $190 (not sure if this is a good price)

Then was at Orient Photo. Quoted $1,520 for Nikon D80 kit and a camera bag (think is the lowepro one which the Nikon Sale is giving) and a tripod.

Lastly was at Vision 1 at Berlington Square (not sure if spelt correctly, it's beside Sim Lim Sq) This shop gave a very good service.. Here, I was quoted $1,300++ for D80 Kit with tripod and 1yr warrenty. The person further agreed to give a 4GB SD card as well.

As I'm new to buying these stuffs.. I'm unaware of which is a better offer (I'm rather inclined towards thte Vision 1 and TK foto)

So anybody in this forum can enlighten me and perhaps deduce which is a better offer or good for long term buying...

On a side note, do I really need a dry cabi???

Help would be very much appreciated

SB 600 at 600 is a good price ... the price list is here http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=292045 .
D80 kit is about $1500 from the price list. yup.

but its weird they don't let you have your hands on the camera to try. most of the shops did let me try

you haven't try lords and ms colors.
imo, don't take take the freebies as a whole...stay away from those freebies unless you really need them and you find having just the kit set, free filter, SD card and extra batt cheaper than tripod and cam bag.

=) probably the shop owners just didn't think I'm a serious buyer or just don't wanna entertain me.. haha

ms colour at ang mo kio seems not bad.
do drop down john 3.16 at funan for honest opinions.
overall my friend told me lords at lucky plaza have the best pricing for d80 (not so sure if it's still the same).

you can don't take some of the freebies offered and try asking for a lower price.
best get an e-quote 1st before dropping down to the shops just in case some shops have double standards.

if money is an issue then get a 2nd hand body with low shutter count instead and save around 200 or so...

do check out the nikon price list as of above.

hmm..sure, I'll check them out someday.
Not very sure if the freebies are useful =\ like the lenspen klear and tripod, bag etc.. I'm new to SLR. Don't even know if I should even get a Dry Cabi.. lol

EDIT: Do you think I should get the SB600 for 190 bucks???

Just saw this lady and her friend fiddling around, testing with a d80 and what looks like a 40d for comparison at John 3:16 earlier tonight.
Even changed lenses to let her try. Maybe you should mosey your way to Funan instead?

SB600 at $190 is a nice deal considering the retail price for it is normally $320+.

Lenspen is useful to clean the lens. Dry Cabi is a must if you want to protect your investment from fungi. Tripod and bag are nice to have unless you want better ones.

no comments with the flash issue.
best is to get something basic 1st to start with then decide what other equipment you need after shooting for a while or wait till you really fixed on what you want then go get it.

I realised the Great Nikon Sale also has this promotion: buy SB600 at $199 when you buy d80 kit.

Hi, the price you were quoted was reasonable, as i just bought mine about a month ago at $1495, with 2 Gb SD, and Nikon bag.

With the freebies thrown in, the price $1500 with 4 Gb SD and other stuffs was indeed a good buy.
