Default the zenitar 16mm or...?

hi guys, i owe a 18-70mm and i was thinking of getting a russian made zenitar 16mm fisheye f2.8 to do my landscapes photos however, i am pretty worried abt manual focusing with width angles. anyone has experience with this lens on with this lens on a DX camera? i have a film camera too so i should be able to achieve the fish eye effect there as compared tothe 16 x 1.5 on my D40X.

or should i just save up for a 85mm f1.8 pr a SB-300 student here so stretching my dollar. ard $500. pls advise. 18-70 at wide angles can get distorted tats why i wanted the enitar plus i hada gd review from a canon user but i too shoot indoor at times so a 85 f1.8 be nice for both indoors and out. wad you guys think?

if you don't like the distortion on the wide end of the 18-70, wouldn't it be worst on a 16mm fisheye lens?

if you're looking for lens to take landscape then i'm sure you wouldn't want or need the 85mm or flash.. and since you're on a budget, i think it'll be good if you decide properly for yourself first what is it that you really want to take and then think about your choices based on that decision..

for your budget.. why not get a second hand sigma 10-20 ? ultimately its what you shoot, there isnt one lens to rule them all..

Btw,

Wide angles are very easy to MF since the DOF of it is so huge. I would be more concerned over the distortion and that 16mm on a DX body is not very wide at all. Maybe you might want to consider the Nikkor 12-24 or the Sigma 10-20mm instead.

nikon is too exp for me. i have heard gd reviews abt this lens hence deciding to hope in as its pretty cheap at MO. a friend actually owed it but canon mount. nvrtheless on the 18-70 distorted i mean is actually fringing and purple edges. if i were to use this on a full frame i be able to get a 180 degrees fish eye view liek a bonus for me.. i am only worried abt MF. anyway, anyoen has experience with this lens b4 on nikon?

wide angle fish eye manual focus is brainless. its hard to get OOF shots unless you are very near the subject like half a metre away

I think it's a pretty decent combination.

I use this lens with D70. Like what they say here that u hit infinity very easily, focusing should not be any problem. Just a matter of getting use to the manual function. Just share with you some humble shots i have taken with this lens.

i wouldnt put too much hope on the 16, 28-70 combo because the main lenghts arn't covered well.. the 28-70 is heavy and probably wont be wide enough a lot of the time while the 16 will be too wide and its manual focus, which is going to get messy when you want to bring it out casually to cover parties or sorts. i love my mf lenses, just not when you want to get quick snaps.

why not ditch this fancy plan and go for the obvious winner, a 18-70mm...? cheap and works wonders with a 50 1.8.

i am using a 18-70 but really too slow a lens indoor and during evenings unless i pump up to iso 1600. i tot of the 17-55 f2.8 tamron indoor and keep my 18-70 for outdoor shots or i should jsut get a 10-20mm sigma

Just to share my personal experience, 18-70 is my 1st lens and it serves very well and have been with me throughout my Europe trip. Brought lots of beautiful memories back home. If U are not taking action shots under low light, i do believe tripod will definitely help you. tamron 17-55 f2.8 is a good lens for both indoor and outdoor, but for my case, i do alot of tele-shots and so the range is kind of insufficient for me. I also have Sigma 10-20 and it really helps when come to landscape. Ultimately, it goes down to what kind of shots you often took i.e. your style and the range u often use. All the best in your search.

Share some fantastic shots with you done by other ppl. Some of the shots really show that composition is sometimes (or maybe most of the time) can bring ur gear to the fullest capability:

there are some full frame fisheye on dx format photos on web, u may google it, not really a fisheye already, just a normal wide angle with very very bad distortion
but circular fisheye (like sigma 8mm) still working fine
