I WANT the good ol' days (way before my time) to come back! Models were not severely underweight, models had curvy figures and spent a long time beautifying and taking care of themselves, and really knew how to ham it up for the cameras.

Nowadays, those XMMs that go for mass orgy shoots are skin+bones, lie about their bio stats, and don't care about the little details of their apperance because they think photographers can fix everything in Photoshop. Also, the XMMs don't know how to pose- just stand there and smile sweetly, thinking that it's enough!

Also, back then, there was no Photoshop and photogs relied on their skill and the skills of other professionals (MUAs, stylists, set assistants) as well as darkroom skills to get the perfect photos, none of those digitalized perfecting tools!

but DP has a point .... we need to progress using the 'good old days' as benchmark and NOT degenerate and find our way back to the 'good old' days'

Well, curvy figures, like that of the iconic Marilyn Monroe - how I wished I could find such a model to shoot.

About a year ago, I went for a shoot. One of the models got very obvious open pores. My lens was sharp enough and I could count the pores one by one on the forehead, nose and under the eyes. Well, she should go see a dermatologist and/or do better make-up. Alternatively, expect photogs to give her a digital cosmetic surgery.

Lately, the trend is like they give you 3 "pro" models + 3 bonus debutant models for a mere $30. Simple arithmetics will tell you how much each model will get for a half day's work, getting fired at by the flashes for a good 3hrs.

One more thing - just look at the photos posted by the shoot organisers. They don't even have any decent pic to show. There are noisy HP pic, pic taken in an exhibition in an uniform to promote some gear, pic taken in a canteen, ad infinitum. I guess it is a basic requisite that each model got to show a decent portforlio with face shot, full body shots and bikini if that is gonna to be a bikini shoot.
I love big car, big house, big lenses, but small apertures.

I'm not even talking about really curvy Marilyn Monroe figures. "Models" nowadays are severely underweight! Is it too much to ask for girls to be healthy?? They have no flesh at all, just skin and bones. They never go to the gym, so whatever flesh some "models" have is fat, not muscle.

Or you will see disproportionate "models" with skinny arms, skinny calves, skinny waists, and then their thighs would be HUGE and fatty and they would have just the slightest bit of flab on their lower tummy.

Alas, GWCs don't care the health or appearance of the girls, as long as they look "kawaii". In this case, GWCs are still stupid either way you see it because why PAY for inexperienced talentless kawaii-looking girls when they are everywhere? Just spend two hours on a Saturday at Orchard Road, you can shoot 50 TFCDs already.

Worked with a real woman recently, with nice curvy figure, 34-25-35, 5'3" (160cm), 97lb (44kg), with meat on her bone. What a joy.

I nevertheless got a few comments from local sources that she is too plumb! Perhaps, we deserve what we get, the malnourished skin on bone, skeletons we see so often.

I also worked with 3 others, they all did their own make up. We had a long discussion on what I don't like, they all reluctantly agreed, no ridiculous false eye lashes, no color contacts, no iris enlarging lens, and ofcourse, no "art creation" on their nails. The result is definately something I love. There are definately room to improve, but not bad for a first test shoot.

Models and organisers need to realise, sometime less is definately more. Allow nature to do it's thing. Nature can be very beautiful and sexy.

Severely underweight - due to this syndrome called Anorexia-Bulimia. The media says thin is in. But in Spain or in France, if I remember correctly, they wanna to ban models who are too skinny from the catwalk.

If you have seen some of those art in the Renaissance era in museum in France and Italy, you will realise that the standard in that epoque was a curvaceous fully body figure.

Models attire - basic thing like not showing the bra straps, even those transparent ones. Like non-reflective make-up. With glossy type, whatever flash with reflector, diffuser or toilet-bowl, tupperware or meepok bowl - the reflection is gonna to look terribly nasty. Just like when we go to a Fuji Frontier shop to print, we got the choice between matte and glossy.

More photographers need to be proactive in telling the model to do what is required of them, especially for a paid photoshoot, even if it's a mass photoshoot. Don't worry about hurting the model's feelings. After all, you are paying her to look good for your photos, and if she doesn't look good, then you're wasting your money. You are paying for her services, and if she doesn't provide, then she's cheating you of your money.

XMMs don't care about the photos, only about the money. They won't do anything for you unless they're told to specifically. Ideally, models would provide good model services (good make-up, well-dressed, well-prepared with make-up tools, extra outfits, tape, safety pins, etc.). Just like if a model is unhappy, it will show in the photos, if a photographer is unhappy, the photos will suck and there won't be very many of them. Happy model + happy photog = happy photos.

Because GWCs and XMMs need to be eradicated.. or at least not allowed to get near a camera and not allowed to charge fees.

I said GWCs and XMMs, not people in general. Reading compre = FAIL.

Whatevs. If people can't read well enough to carry on a meaningful conversation, consider this thread closed.

You wanna be the President of the "Save XMMS" campaign?

The way we go on here. XMMs will no longer walk the surface of earth just like the Tyrannosaurus rex within 30 years.

Then someone will come along and shoot a film call "XMMrassic Park".
