Hi all,
i am a newbie trying out a D80, using stock lens. I was trying to shoot a toycar(match box size) in macro mode(the one with a flower on the dial), at times it focus and can capture(release the shutter) but at times it cannot release and when looking ath the view finder, it's blur like trying to focus. I am in AF mode. Can anyone help to explain why this is so? Thanks And also what's the cheapest option to a micro lens(shooting insects)? Thanks for any advise and need help. |

You were probably in focus priority mode. So if the picture is not focused properly (i.e. the green dot is not holding steady in the viewfinder) then you will not be able to depress the shutter and capture anything. This is a default setting in AF-S mode.
As for cheapest option, it's avail in this forum if you do a search. reverse lens Close-up filters Macro lenses Extension tubes You can find that these are all options for macro shooting but each have their pros and cons. If you are really interested in macro, do consider the dedicated macro lenses. |

The stock 18-135 if not wrong there is a focusing limit of 0.5 metres. So what you can do is to ensure the distance from the front element of the lens is at least 0.5 metres from the subject even when zooming. That way, you can be quite sure you can achieve focus lock.

Check out some of the experiments i did at http://photobuok.blogspot.com/2008/0...periments.html
I just used a barrel and my 50mm 1.8 lens(abt $120-$140 2nd hand). If not you can just reverse the same 50mm 1.8 and face it reversed at the widest aperture. You'll have to focus by moving ur camera forward and backwards tho. :/

Haha, ya but i just wanted to try it out.
Usually, a 50mm reverse mounted directly to camera is enough. ![]()
