I personally think that if a question in a forum has been asked before, or has been discussed already, I would simply point it out for the thread starter to do a search. It is entirely possible people new to clubsnap are not aware that they've asked the 5th millionth question on whether they should get the tamron 17-50 f/2.8, if the kit lens is lousy, etc.

There are times I feel that clubsnap COULD do with an FAQ, but that would be directly spoonfeeding people with questions. I agree that those with questions should make the effort to look into their queries by themselves whilst waiting for replies to their threads.

All these being said, the attitude of some people who ask questions is deplorable. Granted, other members of clubsnap may not have been extremely polite when they directed you to do a search but new CSers need to realise that by being asked to do a search they are already one step on the way to finding their answers.

One way to improve our experience in the forums though, could be to phrase our questions such that there would be a general point of discussion. Instead of asking for lens reviews (which obviously, Google would be King), I try to see if other people could share their user experience on any lens I might consider buying, such as Calebk who is more than willing to share with other canonites the photos taken with his 35mm f/2 etc etc.

The only question that does irritate me: "Hi all I am looking for a lightweight DSLR combination with no need to change the lens and good image quality. " Such threads, I simply do not reply as I find it pointless. Don't want to waste my time and that of others, especially for issues where the answers to questions are extremely subjective.

What CS has provided me so far, is tons of good advice (when I've asked politely - as everyone should) and a good ground for learning more about photography. My technical know-how has also improved - this I believe we should all try and help one another along. But there is a line between asking what aperture causes diffraction and how to change my ISO setting (RTFM, as they say).

Many a times a seemingly most detestable question might be the most unknowing question to a newbie. One might pre-read to the best of his knowledge and come up with *smart* questions , but it will still be the most deplorable to someone with the wisdom ?

But I agree with unseenshadows. If there are so many regular members who find newbies stepping on their nerves, having a pre-registeration clause, some terms and condition will lessen the problem, but i highly suspect that will defeat the spirit of the newbie forum for example.

    ya, i agree with this

maybe one knows his stuffs already but he just pretends he doesn't know in order for someone to give some advice so he can double check whether the info he found online is correct or anot

OK if you say so. Didn't mean to be nasty. Wasn't quite clear which way he was pointing just from his first post.

This topic of 'old familiar questions' comes up on other forums too. I'm not talking about thengz here, but it's funny how in some forums people appoint themselves to dictate what other people should post about. They're the same kind of people who join club committees so they can lay down rules. Those people get up my nose, which is why I was maybe a bit aggressive in my post ...

    Cheers all

It's not bad to help someone who doesn't know where to start. The only problem I see is when someone asks the same question that's on the first page of that area 3 or 4 times already.

These people go to New Topic immediately, instead of taking some time to look. Having been a moderator elsewhere, I would always gently push the people to search a bit or even just look at what's in front of them. If everything is spoon fed, they won't learn to be self sufficient and will always require help, even when none is available.

If someone here has all the answers, that's great, but I find that difficult to believe. We're all learning something new, at some level, even the professionals.

Isn't it possible to be nice and not give away all of the answers, to promote study?

If a person do not wish to 'Spoon Feed' or answer 'Pointless Question'....... Why post a reply at the 1st place ?? Why not just ignore the thread. Does it make your day just to post some 'nasty' or 'rude' remark ??

If the Newbie post such question outside the 'NEWBIE SECTION'..... then he is asking for it. But if the question is post inside the 'NEWBIE SECTION', then whats wrong with that ?? Don't feel like answering, don't feel like 'Spoon feeding'.... just ignore the thread. Let those who wants to help, helps.

If not, why does ClubSNAP have a 'NEWBIE SECTION' in the 1st place.....

I don't like how the search function is limited to 1 every 30 seconds, even if no result is found.
    It makes searching so... slow
It is the camera, not the photographer.

if know the answer and have time, then answer. no time or no interest then leave it lor.

i've learnt quite a lot on this forum over the years by reading threads that began with "lame" questions. now if i already know the answer, i skip the threads.

i agree with the fella who said what is a bohliao question can also depend on what stage of development we're at.

some ppl just got too much pent up rage to vent. newbies are targets of opportunity.

there is no shortcut to photography, takes years of strain (looking into the vf too frequent) and sweat to learn.
even years down the road, you might still discover that you're still learning...an ever-learning hobby.
maybe thats why it never get boring.

Yup. Some CSers gotta undergo anger management course. Cyber-bullying is a no-no.

Everyone started out as a newbie. Everyone took the first step into photography and I think members of a forum like CS should give guidance and help newbies as much as possible. This way, we promote the hobby or profession for some.

Probably make the 'search' button bigger and more obvious? I agree the 30s delay is sometimes time-consuming.
