Default Difference between UV and Skylight Filter

What is the difference between the UV filter and the skylight filter? I read the description in the HOYA website but I am still a bit blur...

    Which is more necessary?

Dun really mind fussy technical details cos they are always interesting to me.

I intend to get a UV filter and leave it on all the while to protect my lens. Its ok, ya?
