What is your optical zoom ?
I used a +4 close up and a telephoto convertor 1.7x and was able to get this

The telephoto converter will increase your optical zoom to 17X. It costs 200+.

a +4 is enough
if still want more then stack another +2

more doesnt mean good

a tele convertor is not necessary for marco using the C2100uz

I know it is not necessary but its still possible to use the TC rite? Since with the TC, I can increase the magnification factor with just a +4.

as i said, its not necessary since the C-2100uz has already 10x zoom

butterflies are quite big insects and most of the time a 3-5x zoom is sufficent with a +4 close up filter

TC will degrade image quality also...

Oh, I was not talking about butterflies. I was thinking about those really small insects.

The reason I used a telephoto convertor with the +4 Close up filter is so that I can take the photo of the insect at a further distance away instead of ~25cm distance limited by the +4 close up filter.

From what I understand, the focusing distance will not be dependent on your focal length. So no matter what focal length you are using, the focusing distance will still be approx. 25cm.

Not really, the close up filter is in between my telephoto convertor and the camera lens. With the telephoto, I was able to move back more than 25cm, around 50cm to take the photo of the subject.

then stack +4 and +2 together

with the zoom from C-2100uz, should be able to capture quite small insects.... if not then stack +4 and +4

how do you shoot? probably, you're missing some steps or doing something wrong..... try the following:

1. attach the filter
2. use normal shooting mode (not the macro mode!)
3. zoom in fully
4. bring the camera to around 20-25cm infront of the subject
5. Press shutter to achieve focus and take the pic.

You could try at home using any small objects.
