Default Focusing Issue

Recently I have been shooting quite a lot to improve my skill... but I notice that my focusing always turn out not what I want. Does environment lighting affect the focusing also? The equipment play a part? The object that I focus on?? etc... there are so many thoughts in my mind that I am thinking thru.
Can anyone please help me... save me from those off focus... sigh...

Are you using one, or all three focus points...when you use all three the camera decides which point to focus on, and imagine this scenerio if the camera chooses the wrong focus point:

"...your wife of many years is in the left area wearing a single colour one-piece bathing suit...in the right focus area there is a young, sexy, nymph wearing a string bikini.

The camera has trouble locking on to the single colour of your wife's suit, and instead chooses to focus on the nymph making your wife a blurry blob. You're not paying too much to the viewfinder at the time due to the fun you're having so you click the shutter release after you hear the focus confirmation beep. After you take the picture your wife comes running over to see the picture you just took...needless to say she'll be contacting a divorce lawyer."

Well, I got a E500 with Kit lens and got and 2nd hand E1. Usually I will mount my 18-180 on my camera to walk around shooting on my E1. Also, there's no beeping sound to tell me whether is focus or not. Can that sound be switched off?
Also, when I'm shooting, I usually use centre focusing only and when I point towards my object, and at times, I need to capture it fast. But somehow, when I got home and input the pic in my PC, I realise the pic is not in focus as what I want. Could it be the surrounding that is affecting the focusing or technical issue on the camera?
Anyway, will try to post some pic later tonite for example as what I have just describe.

Yes, the focus confirmation beep CAN be turned off...look for that option in setup menu 2 (the bottom menu).

Now, does your lens actually move (or do you hear the focus motor if the lens has internal focus) when you half-press the shutter release button? Do you see the actual aperture number in the viewfinder/image, or does it show as "---"?

Do you see the green confirmation dot indicating a focus lock when you focus on a high contrast subject?

After you post the answers, we'll see what the issue is, or what the next question will be...no point going further until you post those answers.

Thanks for directing me to the focus confirmation beep. Now is "ON"...

Yes, my lens do move when I half-press the shutter button and I also see my aperture number.

I do see the confirmation dot too.

So when my focus is confirmed and the object move away, the object will be off focus, can I say that?

As mention earlier on on the "wife" and "bikini babes", u mean the camera itself will tend to focus on more vibrant colours by default izit? I notice when I focus on black object, the focus will go off and remain off focus until I shift the focusing point away and re-focus.

Hmm... it seems like, there are a lot to discuss here... or maybe is just my skill not up to it to handle the hotstuff??? ??? *blur*

i think there is also an element of skill and understanding ur equipment in getting things in focus. most of the time, it really should not be a problem. 99% of my shots are sharp. it used to be lower with prosumers. some of the human factor causes are, shooting at very big apertures and thus narrow dof, and after achieving focus lock, pause for too long to take the shot. during this pause, subject movement or some motion by your camera may produce a softer shot due to out of focus. the other thing is, are u on c_af when u think u are on s_af??

Please listen to the bros here and show some pictures, life will be easier.

In fact, mind if I ask whether you learn any basic photography? This is a core skill (both theory and practical lessons) you need to learn. The camera is just another idiotic tool that is brainless (neither does it read your brain).
