Default More Leica M Exotica: 90mm f/1.0

Not exactly sure of the background of this lens , but apparently it was a special built military use lens:

Leica Leitz Canada M-Mount 1,0/90mm Elcan

ps: came across this by accident on ebay, thought the guys here might be interested.

Seems to have been used by the Naval Photographic Center, USN.

Yahh.. seems so.

But f/1.0 at this focal length is pretty extreme isn't it?
The only other one I've heard of is the Nikkor 85mm f/1.0 ...

More for spying. Elcan is the military contractor for the Leica Noctilux glass, and they have since stopped making the glass.

I've read about this before! Apparently the front element is so huge, it blocks both the rangefinder and viewfinder! I wonder how the poor sod managed to focus at all, at at f/1!

No need focus... set at infinity and shoot.

at f1, probably they are trying to use this at night. But with modern night vision technology, this lens will only end up in collectors drybox.

No... I think they will use the donkey... it's too heavy for the sherpas.
