Hi all senior CSers,
This is my 1st time shooting a near-wedding but ROM solemnization shoot for my fren. With a great chance and confidence given by my fren (the groom), ask me to shoot the event for them, i was greatly with pressure and nervous too... HEE. Pls take a look and give me advice to help me improve further in the future... Thanks. ![]() Last edited by ominblue; 27th May 2008 at 05:11 AM. |

First off, congrats to your friend.
![]() i can still remember when I took my first ROM for a fren too.. in film somemore.. >.< Anyway, some little comments.. 1) You might wanna watch the elements in ur photo thro your cam before u click e shutter? E.g. for a number of shots, the packet of Yeo's Winter Melon drink could be removed, it doesn't help the picture and it is distracting.. 2) Watch out for the cropping of hands and fingers etc too. #12, #13, #14, #15, #21, you can try to either go out further or go in closer to crop away the distracting hands sticking out somewhere.3) Perhaps going in extra close might have some better impact, e.g. the signing of the cert, you can go in close until you could see what they are writing on the cert itself. ^^ 4) Portraits wise, be careful of the background, e.g the last photo with the lightbulb sticking out behind the groom's head, looks kinda distracting. ![]() Hope you don't mind the comments, just some observations. ^^ Nice attempt overall, better than my first try..... ![]() |

to add to wat Arcanic said,
i think u could take a few shots of the jubilant expressions of the bride, groom, relatives etc... to add to the mood... Perhaps u did but did not post here? ![]()

congratulations to your friends!
i don't shoot rom/wedding professionally but just hope to air some critique hopefully it might be useful. like what arcanic mentioned, many shots were too cluttered. i felt the selective blurring and colourisation in #4 and #16 didn't work. so maybe go closer, go from under, go from higher whichever eliminates others, or use lower aperture. Can tell you've got all the best lenses as well, justify their quality ![]() the other is the ambient light where everyone is in the awful yellow cast, natural but unflattering in some ways. The proper use of flash could have made the couple (subject) more outstanding. alternatively, burning/vignetting in photoshop alittle can help isolate the subject as well, many b&w pics effectively put this effect to good use. the famous weddg photogs here do it, you know who and its easy to make reference but doing it as good as them is challenging. some street portraitures also show very effective vignetting/burning hopefully they can be of help to your rom pics too!~ generally i prefer the outdoor shots, #19 the eye contact of the guy seems distracted or at another photog? #21 is my favourite pick, the last one too, the lamp can easily paint away with black though. great effort bro ![]() just my 2cents |

Thanks Sprintist and Xunjas and the rest who had commented on my 1st time ROM photo shoot.
All comments had, indeed, been a great help to my photography learning journey. I will definitely keep all pointers in mind if i ever got another chance to shoot Wedding/ROM and sure will definitely put all advices to use. I will be posting some more shots on the groom and relatives later as what i supposed to do it yesterday, but didnt had the time. Cheers... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

#26 and #28, quite similar problems as mentioned before, the background or foreground (in #28) is too distracting.
unless the subject of interest has a really priceless expression that you die die have to capture, if not, i would recommend not taking those shots as the other elements are too distracting. ^^For human portraits, try looking at some of the other people here, we have very good photogs here in CS, don't need to say name you should be able to tell, go look at some of their shots and see how they take pictures of people, generally i think the expression of the people is quite important. So try looking out for those expressions. ![]() The more i look at your friend, the more i think he looks like Alan Tam Yong Ling (Not sure spell correctly), the celebrity from HK.. ![]() |
