Question Some Help needed...

Hi guys, I currently own a Canon A70 Camera. I realise one problem with my camera. For instance, if I'm using the highest resolution (L) and Superfine compression on my 16MB Compact Flash, the number of pictures I can take show 9. After I take one pic, the number reduces to 8. If I take another shot again, by right the number should reduce to 7 but it didn't. I remain at 8. Only I took another pic, then it will reduce to 7.

At first, I thought maybe my compact flash to faulty so I change to another Compact flash, the same problem occurs. So I decide to take a look at the size of the image file. The size of the image ranges from as low as 800KB to 1.3MB but actually to the manual the estimated size of the photo should be abt 1.56MB. Is my camera faulty? Why isnt the image that it took arent around the size that is stated in the user manual???

Thanx for reading, your help is appreciated!

if i not wrong, file sizes vary with with image, depending on the image since JPEG uses a compression algorithm to reduce the size. so images with a lot of areas with the same colour/tone would be smaller than a image with a lot of very fine details.

that's my understanding anyway. if you shoot RAW or TIFF, then it should all be consistently the same file size. try it?

He doesn't have raw and tiff to play with...
Anyway, try shooting a white wall and another shot at something contrasty and see the difference in filesize.

Yes, the sizes vary. Apparently the amount of Reds/Greens/Blues in the picture has some impact on the size. Suggest that you take it as an estimate of 1Mb per image. You may also want to note that less greenery in the picture will usually lead to a smaller size.

Nothing to worry abt... my A40 also did the same thing. With my 64mb CF empty, it says 64 shots left. The camera estimates 1mb per pic, but actually it takes 90 odd shots to empty my CF...
