tried to get as much DOF as i could squeeze out of my G3.. guess i can't force a G3 to do wat a SLR/DSLR can do?

yup, it's a glass..

i thought the concentric circles of both the base of the glass and the coaster looked quite interesting in a macro shot.. then the 'f' on the coaster provided for a focal point? guess the lack of DOF didn't bring out wat i wanted..

Jeremy, trust me it's worse trying that with a SLR/DSLR. The DOF of smaller focal length lens is much higher, so your G3 can achieve a higher DOF compared to the same aperture by a SLR. Try to stop down all the way to f8, and don't go too close. You should be able to get the entire f in focus.

hmm.. now that u've said it.. i juz checked the EXIF and found that this shot was taken at f3.. coz i remembered that small f-numbers will give bokeh.. unless i remembered wrongly?!?

I think you mixed it up..

yup small fstop (large aperture) gives bokeh. But bokeh means background (or foreground) blur, which equates to shallower DOF. In your case you want DOF to be deep so that all of the f can be in focus. Therefore, I recommend to use a larger fstop (smaller aperture) like f8.
