I often came across these items when reading through threads of people replacing the QR clamp of their ballheads and these items were used to secure the new QR clamp and the ballhead. I wish to know if these items are sold locally and if not, are there any equivalent products in DIY shops?

I'm from the US where Loctite is a very common product sold in every DIY shop. I've looked for it (or something similar) here in SG and I've not had any luck. However, I am going back to the US very soon and I'll try and remember to bring some back. By the way, the red Loctite is very strong whereas the blue is better suited to most applications.

Loctite is used in engineering applications. We have tons of it in my workplace. We use it to lock machine screws in electronics assembly machines.
Loctite has a local agent. You should be able to find them online. The webby will also tell you which type has what strength and is used for what purpose. HTH. Cheers!

Is the loctite expensive and does the price varies with its strength? May I also know the URL of the website of the local agent? |

Please do a search.
It's also sold in most of the up-market hardware stores found in shopping malls. ![]() |

alternative you could try hobby shops, those RC hobby shops. Look for Threadlock.
Even tamiya has threadlock to offer. Its blue and once set not as hard as the Blue Loctite. Just remember, Blue Loctite if you intend to loosen whatever you are applying it to again, Red Loctite if you think you want it to be permanent. =D |

Kian Soon Hardware 95, Lavender Street Singapore 338721 Tel : +65-6291-0195 or Kian Seng Hardware Tdg Pte Ltd Address: 166/168 Sims Ave Singapore 387487 Telephone: (65)-67487144 Most come in 0.5, 10ml & 50ml (and above sizes). For general person use, the 10ml should suffice. I've not the #242 before but for reference, i paid S$35 for the Loctite 290 Medium strength threadlocker (50ml). Yes, prices vary with strength & whether its a speciality threadslocker for high temperature or for general purposes. Prices do not vary too much. I know that the 50ml bottles very by around $10 for different part numbers. Loctite 242 sounds like the right one for this application. Medium strength & removable by hand force. They have the red Loctite #222 or #290 where are low & medium strength. These are removable. The red Loctite 680 is super super permanent.

The red one is permanent enough I guess
Quite difficult to remove by turning with hand.Don't think anything stronger than the blue 242 is necessary, especially for tripods ![]() At my workplace, we sometimes use the Loctite 692 (green liquid in red bottle) that takes an hour to set, but after that requires a heat gun and lots of torque to break free. |

I doubt I will want to remove the clamp once installed. The red loctite sounds right for the task
