When is 50D and 550D coming?

Anyone can predict? The current latest model 450D is selling by the trucks-load. So when will 50D/550D arrive? I guess by end of 2008 based on the following reasons:

1. Current 450D has a few firsts in its dslr range: use sd card, live view, 12.4mp, lens in-built stabilisation. The 450D is a testbed for Canon to see how the response for this model is.
2. Since it has been proven that 450D is hot and selling well, a new model is around the corner and will incorporate all the "firsts" of 450D plus more: in-built body stabilisation, 15mp, video recording, 180% tilt lcd screen and weather-sealed body.

I called this strategy of adding new features in dribs and drabs as a staggered marketing ploy for faster turnover. Why can't Canon engineers incorporate the best features at one go? Look around at other big names and see how often do they introduce new models?

So if (2) happens in this year, the secondhand market will be flooded with bargains 450D just like we are beginning to see bargains for 400D in CS buy/sell section.

Anyone can add to point (2) to anticipate new features for the future model?

DSLR will never have video recording capabilities, due to the fact that it uses mechanical shutter etc, unlike point and shoot digicam where all the innards are electronic. (Maybe possible, but still long way to go , not so soon IMHO)
and Canon won't put Image stabilitazion in their body cause it will make their IS lens unsellable.

500D will not appear because 500D is a designation for a close-up filter that Canon currently markets.

It is technologically possible to combine dslr and movie (short clip) function. Hybrid model such as Lumix FZ50 already has it. You are right to a certain extent due to mechanical vs electronic designs, so far dslr models do not offer movie clip recording. But I see this marriage is coming soon, once a manufacturer starts offering this feature, it becomes a norm soon after.

The FZ50 does not have a mechanical shutter.

canon life cycle is 18 months. you do the maths.

the next 50D will probably have 12MP and the 5xxd will have 15. anyway, i care more about the photo oi shoot rather than new techno.
