Hi, may I know do you all gaffer your lens body if you all have sweaty palms? Cos from what I think, the dry sweat which contains some salt will stay on the gaffer tape, and this will cos the lens body to corrode. At such, this might cos the paint of the lens body to come off when you remove the gaffer tape. Not sure whether some has experienced it.
Pls share your opinions. Thanks

my gaffered 80-200 have a "wash" (got splashed completely) in sea water before. so far so good tho
I believe most of the paint are able to withstand it... Sigma should be the only one having problem |

I thought if being exposed to saltwater over long time, the gaffer tape will trap some salt particles, and the lens body will corrode no matter how gd is the paint coating, and the paint from start to separate from the lens. Since the gaffer tape sticks to the paint, if you remove the gaffer tape, won't it peel the paint from the body?

I think what henessy said is correct,to a certain extent.nikkors IMO are made very well so i think a little salt is fine,so long as it doesnt get onto the contacts

i have sweaty palms, very severe ones.
tried gaffer for a time to 'protect' my FM2 and 28mm when i was doing climbing lots. every 3 months or so, do notice paint peeling, bits la nothing massive. but i kinda attribute that to other weather/sports related factors than just sweaty palms. |
