Yes, I have been to prague for 5 days in 2000. Its a lovely place. One of the most historically preserved cities in Europe. Spent most of my time on Charles bridge. Amazing place, considering the huge number of tourists there- very dependent on tourism. Don't know how the place is changed now.

Yes, I have been to Prague for half a day three months ago. Spend all my time in Prague Castle which I think is really worth a visit, especially if u like to take pics.

It is a really lovely city with friendly people. There are still lot of tourists.

their economy depends on tourism. The number of tourist each year exceed the total population of prague

Prague has more tourists in it than locals. We were there for a week last year and it was pretty good and easy to get around. It's such a tourist city now that English is spoken by nearly every one working in the tourist areas. (I.E most of the old city centre :-)
I did some research in advance (I'm also a tram enthusiast and Prague has one of the best tram networks in Europe) and discovered they have a really good value 7 day public transport ticket. We bought one each at the city info counter at the airport when we arrived. Only hassle was that ticket isn't valid on the special airport express buses :-) So if you are there for more than 3 or 4 days, buy a 7 day transport ticket and just hop on and off the city trams, metro and buses at will.

The old Centre of Prague is so small and well served by the tram network and metro that going it alone is very easy, we had absolutely no trouble getting around and seeing the sights. You just need a good guide book to work out what the best things to see are.

Pražsky hrad (Prague Castle) will take you all day. Any tour that tries to do it faster won't do the place justice. The tickets are a valid over several days, so we did part one day and another part the next.

Beautiful city. If you're wary of tourists, go off-season. I went in winter and it was gorgeous.

I was on F&E. I actually went to Dresden and pop over to Prague for half a day on my own. The transport system is good in Prague and most of the people are friendly and can speak a bit of english.

If u are there for one day, u can get a one day transport pass from the info counter at the bus station.

Some of the trams stop do not have vending machine for buying the trams tickets. I had to walk back to the metro station to buy a tram ticket back from Prague Castle to the bus station.

U can found lot of information on where to go in Prague.

Some info on Prague & Prague castle :

    Hope this help.

P/S : I went in Winter and it was really lovely (colour were still vivid in Prague unlike winter in germany).

Did you book your accommodation before hand? Is it easily to find affordable accommodation in Prague? I don't mind staying in a hostel.

I went to prague during december last year for 5 days. Apart from looking at hotels or hostels, you can consider staying at guest houses as well. The one i stayed in was Lida's Guest house. Not too far away from the attractions (2-3 metro stops), reasonably priced and the owners are friendly and always there to offer you advice.

Is language a problem? Heard that most people there do not speak English.

Was in prague for 3 days en route to Vienna. There's plenty of hostels in prague cos tourism is thriving, can check out www.hostelworld.com or www.hihostels.com. Apart from Prague Castle, Town Sq and Charles Bridge, also try out some of the restaurants for a taste of Slavic food and some Czech beer. Oh, Prague is very inexpensive when compared to the all the countries in Central and Western Europe. Didn't have to worry about language while I was there as because of the thriving tourism industry, the service staff at tourist destinations definitely speak English and you can definitely find people that manage bits and pieces of conversational English around Prague and in many restaurants, they have English menus. Oh, if you're thinking of having a meal or tea at a cafe at the town square, prices for sitting outside in the square are significantly higher than sitting inside fyi.

actually, most of the people there know how to at least speak basic english due to the tourism trade. If you are a museum person, you can consider getting the prague passport, its like an attractions booklets that covers the entrance fees to many attractions, including prague castle and many more...thing there is an option to get unlimited travel on the Metro for 2 or 3 days as well with the prague passport...i thought it was quite a good deal....but note that it will only be a good deal if you intend to spend time at the museums
