Hi,
I have some concerns about using gaffer tapes on cameras and lenses, perhaps those with experience in using them can give me some advice. 1)main concern is will it remove or peel paint and/or print/markings on the lens and body when removing the tape even after leaving the tape on for long periods (say more than a yr)? 2)will it leave any residue (a little is fine i guess) even when used under sunny conditions often? Thank you. ![]() |

Even using Apollo tapes, it is advisable to replace tape once every half a year at most.

It depends on the lens finishing and the brand of the gaffer tape.
I normally renew the gaffer every 3 - 6 months, so this alleviates the stickiness issue and it's normally cleared pretty fast (just rub a little with your finger) Some finishing which is NOT so good, may get the paintwork removed (according to some reviews by others) ![]() |

Not advisble for older cams and lenses like Nikon F401, F801, AF35-70mm f3.3-4.5 etc. Their finishing will peel off.

Not advisable on certain models of Sigma lenses too. YMMV.
