how do u achieve the dark background? Never tried this b4 but my guess will be to underexpose the background and use flash to light up yr object?

Yes, correct. But can you tell us how are you planning to underexpose the background?
Dark background can easily achieve if your background is too far from the subject tht your flash cannot reach.

was that a question or a test?

hmm, le'me guess: Focus your subject at the aperture you want to take (say F11), then shift/point your cam to the background without re-focusing and get the shutter reading (assuming you're using Aperture priority). Say, you've got 1/30... To underexpose by 1 stop, point the cam back to the subject and shift to Manual mode then set F11 and 1/60, 1/90 for 2 stops, 1/125 for 3 stops, and so on...

wah .. got test ah?

if the background is close enuf for the flash to reach, then shld be

1) stand further back and zoom in more
2) reduce flash output
3) touch up in PS!!!

teacher .. correct or not?

AntZ,
Good try with ext tube. I am sure you will like it very much. As for 2nd shot , the object is too much center. Crop away a bit right side to make the composition better.

just asking only lor.... im new to macro sojust applying general knowledge here.

horizoner: moving far from the subj and zooming may not be effective solution to get dark background. Its the other way arrnd, you will get clear background because if you use TTL flash will throw more light to reach the background. I think better to reduce flash output and stay close to subject. Just some general knowledge only hor.

megaweb: thank you, i really enjoy taking closeup so far. Your suggestion is fine if can find dark background or else dun know what to do already. Maybe lennon suggestion apply, but too technical for me.
