Darn, the SWD version is what I really need with my E-3... the non-SWD model sometimes too slow to focus and catch the usual street candids that I shoot.

Oops... this effectively reduced the selling price of my non-SWD 50-200mm

Please don't put the word "Buy" in front of me while talking about camera equipment. I just saw an E-3 demonstrator on Adorama Camera's website for US$1299 instead of the usual US$1699. The 90 day warranty definitely put me off, though.

Good luck to anyone who buys the 50-200mm. It's a great lens, especially if you only focus manually.

I think it's funny that people find the 50-200mm slow and awkward since I use it for sports. I won't say that it's as direct as the various lenses I used for film cameras but it's hardly terrible.

I changed my location as an experiment. I found a lot of people were ignoring whatever I said, as if I didn't exist. Since I changed the location to something more people recognise, I think it has changed perception slightly. For all they know, SLS could be Super Lens Site, instead of Sim Lim Square. Hey, don't tell anyone else, okay?

ha ha ha,you've exposed yourself already my friend, lol.Well,I don't find the 14-54 slow either, maybe cause I haven't fully experience SWD or I'm just easy going, lol, interesting experiment though

erm... hate to say this... but even on the 510... i can feel a difference. And the best part... in low lights... say indoors with a small table lamp... the 14-54 hunts occassionally... the 14-42 hunts around and is unable to lock... the 12-60... it simply locks on... pretty impressive... and during day i would say i'm really impress.. gonner try doing C-AF on some running kids this weekend.

I don't care whether people in here know or not. Most everyone treats me well.

You've probably seen what I've said about using auto focus with the E-1 and the 14-54mm, 50-200mm, and 50mm macro. I haven't used auto focus but about 20 times in 4 years and I didn't keep any of those photos. Unless there is significantly bright light, auto focus doesn't work. It doesn't really matter to me since I'm comfortable without it, but the E-3 apparently works well and it's about time. If I remember correctly, the E-3 has a specific processor (not the TruePic III) to help with auto focus and that probably won't be duplicated for the consumer bodies.

I would like to take this chance in asking some noobish question with regards to the 50-200mm lens...

1) What significant difference(s) does the SWD version have over the non-SWD? Thus far, I only know that the SWD has faster focusing speed.
2) Does using a SWD lens on a non E-3 body make any difference? I have the impression that the SWD lens were largely made for the flagship mounts.

Thanks in advance for any inputs to my queries/doubts. Cheers~

// Found my answer after going through the forum more thoroughly. Thanks for all the folks who took the effort in providing personal writeup/reviews on the Oly lenses!! 3 cheers~! //
