Default Make you own lens hood!

This is an interesting website i came across that we can DIY our own lens hood. Customized for your lens. Looks quite fun. Well, it might be useful for those under budget. Give it a shot! I've not tried mine yet thought, but looks pretty cool.

Interesting site.

But then, wonder if that is meant for full-frame or for the DX/1.6x format? I guess by now, there is a huge majority using the DX/1.6x format.

You could follow the instructions on the site you know...

http://www.lenshoods.co.uk/instructions.php

Use dark colored strong card. You may want to print on white paper, then transfer the lines to a black card (or foam).

Sounds good for emergency use if you need a hood for shading (prevent flaring) but doesn't do much for protection. After frustration from trying to get hood to stay on during shooting, you'll probably buy a real hood pretty fast.

The closest I can think of is the papercraft iPhone back before the iPhone was released. Maybe someone will come up with a papercraft 5D Mk II / 50D.

Sure. Just use a few layers of coffee filter - guaranteed to keep sand, dust and coffee grounds away from your front element. The image quality is not something to rave about, but hey it cost a lot less than a B+W MRC. And they come in sizes large enough to fit a telescope.

ya, not to mention, the more you use the coffee filter to make coffee, that better is the multi-coatings.

good point you brought up, 1 size fits all.

anybody wants to buy my multi-coated, 1 size fits all diy filter? give special discount for csers.

So, did anyone actually try to make one? How about posting some images of a lens with hood attached?
