So far to my knowledge for F717, yes, but you have to hand it over to Sony Service Center to do it.

i see .. how long do they need to upgrade the firmware? can collect on the spot?

tat sounds good ..

wat difference does the new firmware makes? Tried to search on DP review but no result.

I think it fixes some bug in low light focusing.. created quite a bit of hoohah in DPReview forums ....

is it? so far have only used 717 for portrait (which it's really good at) .. never tried on low light b4.

hmm. anyone knows how much it cost? On top of that wat serial no. for sony 717 requires the upgrade?

It's free as long as the camera is still under waranty, and all cameras can be upgraded.

A special device is used, which is connected to the "port" inside the battery compartment to read/write the firmware. Saw it once in Sony but not too sure if it can be done by yourself...
