Default USM paramters in PS

Hi all

I'm new to DSLR. Got a 10D and the pics are generally slightly softer (however got some really sharp pics).

I am learning to use USM on PS. Would appreciate parameters u guys typically use.

Cheers

10D
28-135IS USM

Amount - 70% to 120% for prints, 150% for web
Radius - 1.5 pixels for 4-6MP
Threshold - 0 to 2

This is just what I'm used to... your mileage may vary

Got to clarify something with the numbers above..
These are used before resizing, though many believe that USM should always be done last, but I have the belief that resizing after sharpening will reduce the USB halo effect and introduce anti-aliasing, which makes the sharpening less pronounced, makes the photo more 'natural' and improves JPEG compression slightly.

Disclaimer: I can be totally wrong here, It's just my personal preference.

I'd turn off in camera sharpening and then employ a 2pass approach.

Amount: 500%
Radius: 0.3
Threshold: 0

Then resize to final web output dimensions:
Amount: (portrait)150-300%(architecture)
Radius: (architecture)0.4-0.7(portrait)
Threshold: 0-2(archi) 3-5(portrait)

For prints, it is highly dependent on size of file.

For a 6MP, target size 4R,
I'd use something like
150%
1.1
5

Experiment with the settings to find the optimal values for your camera. In general, prints require higher sharpening amounts and radiuses compared to onscreen viewing.

For me, I use Smart Sharpening, which creates a mask of the edges where the sharpening effect is required. Reduces noise in the featureless areas.

You can set your own preferred parameters.

Note that this works in PS 4.0. Not sure about later versions.

Pardon my stupidity. Shouldn't we use the Amt value > 100% to make it sharper? If so, why use the range between 70 -100%???

I'm clueless in PS
