Have la .. I just checked with AP today. $200+ for Olympus, $85 for the third party one ...
Just to add, the third party one does cause some vignetting. (or so I have been told) Last edited by Retro; 25th June 2003 at 07:48 AM. |

Dunno about $$$ yet ... I will check with my regular source at AP. Anyone interested? Stock comes in about 2-3 weeks. I hope sooner cos got to wear the greens again in July, then I won't have time to collect the goods.
Before that, have to clarify. This is NOT a MO! Just checking who is wants to buy and can wait for the stock to come in. Individuals will have to collect/pay at the shop, I will make some arrangements with the salesperson when the time comes. The general idea is to see if we can get a better price for the lens. Currently, I am only told that it is about $200+. Will get a firm price and get back to all. So if you are keen to join in, just put your name on the list. I am limiting to 5 only to lessen the hassle/headache. Thanks. 1. Retro 2. 3. 4. 5. |

I bought mine 1.5 weeks ago from some some store in the Funan IT mall. It was about S$200. Afterwards I attached it to the C-750 and took it to the birdpark. 8^)
The lense was very nice, ca was minimal and the images turned out nice and sharp. I highly recommend the TCON 17. I was lucky and only had to wait for 3 days for stock to arrive. Vignetting started to occur around 50% zoom. So effecting zoom range was 8.5-17x optical zoom. As you can tell, I'm an optical zoom freak ![]() |

Is vignetting at 50% zoom acceptable? I am a newbie to this, hence the 'silly' question.

It can be quite difficult to find a telephoto lens that doesn't vignette or suffer from purple fringing. In this case, Olympus specifically designed the tcon17 for their range of cameras to greatly reduce these two problems. Your question was far from silly . |

The guy at AP told me that the third party one will have vignetting the moment you stack it on ... I felt that that was totally unacceptable. Yes, it is really cheaper at $85, but I'd rather fork out that bit more to get a better lens.
Thanks your clarification. My mind is made up to get the TCON17 ... the reviews I read were rather good, and recommended this over several other TC lenses. Now, all I have to do is wait for Olympus to bring the stock in and send to AP ... then WOOHOO! New addition to my 'toys' ![]() |

Minor points I dun like about the TCON-17, the 2 plastic end-covers; especially the smaller cap covering the screw thread.
It's pretty loose, maybe it's my bad luck... ![]() The TC feels plasticky. Out-look wise, quality really looks poor. Especially when compared to the Sony HGD1758. Other than that, it's light and I'm pretty satisfied with the quality of the pics it can produce. |

It is better in terms of vignetting. (so I have been told). If you can tolerate it, then go for the cheaper option. Maybe anyone who has more experience with the TC lenses can offer some insight on the performance between 3rd party and Oly TC lens? |
