Thread: Just wondering..

    Default Just wondering..

Have been taking pictures around Singapore and some other countries. Somehow, I've come to realise in Singapore, and in many other countries too, such as Hong Kong, Australia, Canada and UK, have places and cities with the name Victoria. Not sure if you guys realise this too though.

Just wondering.. why the name Victoria is so popular? Victoria School, Victoria JC, Victoria Concert Hall, Victoria Harbour, Queen Victoria Market, Queen Victoria Building and many many more. But I have to say, many of the Victorian architectures in Singapore and Australia are quite beautiful though.

Anyone have any thoughts on this

All the countries you listed have a british colonial past. It's in honor of Queen Victoria.

Oh, she's the longest reigning monarch. People remember her for her superb diplomatic skills, administration, and the most important of all - her support for seafaring ventures which led to the ultimate British Empire.

Thanks leejay, now I understand why
Come to think of it, she should be a really popular and famous monarch I suppose, 'cos the number of buildings in honour of her name are really plenty.. and if I'm not wrong (please correct me if I'm wrong), it seems that she was the only monarch which have so many buildings in honour of her. Even Singapore alone has so many buildings with her name. Australia, Canada and the U.S., according to the resources from the internet, even have cities, towns and states name taken from the queen.
