Think no further. The 80dx can be had for a little over 500 bucks.

Next alternative... is the Nikon SB-50DX, at least is cheaper than the SD-80DX

No need cable. Communicate with the cam via it's hotshoe.
3rd party, I don't think are call "speedlight" liao. 50dx is pretty weak, and doesn't run on aa batteries. |

I m using SB 22s with 5700 ... it uses 4 AA batt and the flash head can be turned. about $200 if i rem correctly
i feel no point buying such a high end flash for 5700 since the cam can't make full use of the features. |
