Here are some filters I always carry with me

    1) Sigma +2 Close up Lens
    2) Cokin P ND4 Gradual Grey
    3) Cokin P ND8 Gradual Grey
    4) Hoya 81B
    5) Hoya CPL
    6) Hoya FLD

and Hoya UV for all my lenses.

I don't use effect filters, I can only recommend the Hoya Softener (Plastic) and the Hoya diffuser (Glass), both are used for portraits.

i think 81b gives warmer tone? used to decrease the color temperature slightly for a warmer (redder) tone. Corrects the tendency toward bluish tones

FLD is for correcting fluorescent lighting day i think.

CPL is circular polariser, cuts reflections and makes sky bluer. it's a 2polariser system...

Cokin Gradual Grey filters are Rectangular Plastics that have the lower half clear and upper half with a Grey Cast. These filters are used mainly during sunrise or sunset when the land is very much darker than the sky. ND4 will reduce 2 stops of light from the sky, ND8 will reduce 3 stops. There is also P120 ND2(Less Useful) that will reduce 1 stop of light in the sky. I usually use ND4 for 1st light and ND8 for sunset. You wouldn't notice the grey cast if you use the filter in these situations. If you use it on white clouds, you should be expecting to see minor grey cast depending on your exposure.

Grad orange have 1/2 clear and 1/2 orange, it should be rectangular. Plain orange filter should be square and the entire filter should be orange color.

    CPL
    UV(N)
    ND in x2 and x4
    80B

    All from Hoya...

Oh I've a question, if my lens have the UV(N) on and I use the CPL, will it cause a slight burring of the subject cos of the 2 lens? My UV(N) is HMC whereas my CPL is not multicoated.
