Default yah lor....G2....

Hi Wai....

I was just trying out with the G2......Mega was there and gave some tips...so juz used the pointers he gave and look like the stack of close ups...is not too bad....but must use flash....else the sun will cause some sort of chromatic aberration..........\

ya, i agree with thomaschan, stacking +4+4+2 => focusing distance reduces to less than 10cm (?), how you manage to not scare away the insects huh?? Maybe macroking or sulhan can give some tips to us macro shooters.

My A40 setup also consist of +4+4+2 closeup filters..

Only con at the moment, is that the quality of the image is degraded with more filter used (the pros could tell but I can't), and that the depth of field gets rather shallow that you sometimes can't get the depth of field you want.

Default Okay...here are some tips.....

Okay guys.....

Me no expert here...just plain lucky i guess.....well here are some of my thoughts.....:
- Depth of Field : Yes the depth of field is very critical in this case.....first you need to experiment at home to see the DOF of your rig(Setup) - Use a ruler placed on the kitchen table...and see how well the DOF can go to. Then go to the location to try it out. As i have only a limited DOF....to shoot...so need to be very particular on the type of insect SIZE that you want to take. Do you know that grasshoppers may come in sizes as small as 5mm till as large as 6cm. Hence choosing the right sized insect can help you get the best DOF... If shallow...then take smaller insect.
The cycad Blue butterfly comes in small till large sizes......so what say you try out taking a really small one ......which will sit nicely in your DOF window.

- Selective insect(behavioral): Some insect are easily agitated...while some are not. STEALTH is a key word....try to sneak into their position. Some insect are soo friendly after seeing you around for awhile that they get comfortable.....I had a butterfly on my right wrist last saturday and the only htink i could do is call Mega to look at it...I CAN"T TAKE ITS PHOTO!!!!....
Hoverflys will HOVER...so it is easy to take them in flight.....
Butterflies.......try taking htem when they have their sucking tubes extended for awhile sucking nectar.....then they will get "HIGH" for a moment and thats where you close in.

- SPiders .....they tend to return to thier same spot(web) if scared....just get into positon to focus on cnter of web...stai SUPER still...and they will quicly run back....into the web...

- Avoid fogging up your viewfinder....and wipe your sweat that trickles on your forehead.....they may drip and hit the leave beneath and scare the insect away!!!!!!

- The last tip...PATIENCE......

Regards,
Sulhan
