Perhaps the first 2. Take classes only when you really need it. The Canon users arrange for meeting sessions sometimes and that would be good for your learning experience.

Hmm ... I take it that this is your first DSLR ... so welcome to the club.

Guess you should read up on the manual, familiarise yourself with the functionalities/features of the cam, then go out and start shooting.

    Enjoy

Kit is right. You should have some idea on what you want to do with it before buying a DSLR.

You have to read the manual, and go out to use the camera. Get to know it well, then decide what's wrong with your photos before decidig on the next question.

Its basically a mixture of everything that you hav jus said..read up books about photography, take classes during weekends and involve yourself in CS group photo outings..but if you don't really have the cash to take classes then you can just get out there on the field and get an expert to guide you along..hope this helps..

Think you should figure out what's your area of interest, then go out and shoot. Or go out and shoot whatever and see which area you're interested in: street, portraits, sceneries, landscapes, macro, etc. Then get the lenses/filters accordingly and read up more on it or watch/read more tips online. Cheaper than buying books.

    1. Find out what you like to shoot
    2. Shoot and post in CS.
    3. Get whacked and learn from mistakes

Don't get overwhelmed by trying to everything at once.

Now that you have a 400D, try Googling stuff like:

How to use my EOS 400D, understanding a DSLR, basics of photography, or just start by searching for topics that interest you.

One nice place to explore: http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/control...roductLineID=3 Look under tips and techniques

Along the way, and this will happen countless times, you will face a wall. That's when you search more, read more, practise more, and slowly start to understand all the technicalities. If face problems, come back and use the search function. Ask first search later sure kenar ah-bish!

Get another dSLR to take photo of ur dSLR ** Just kidding.

Well, read manual go out and shoot, and bring manual with you. Go youtube, watch some training videos.

Soon enough, after you go out shoot and read forum more, you'll find yourself buying more and more things.... And if you are rich, you'll find yourself turning into an L collector.

    Cheers, Christophe

If this is yr 1st DSLR, then prepare for a steep learning curve, its good to experiment with all the buttons and setting, then post yr photos here to ask ppl for opinions.

If you had bought your camera to take pictures, then go and take pictures. Hope you don't end up getting overprotective and hiding the camera at home. In the process of learning, do suss out the good from the crap. Unless you are very very soft-skinned, go look for the right people and give you honest and brutal critique. That's how you truly learn.
