Hello!
I just would like to get your opinion regarding the price difference of Nikon cameras. I'll be going to Tokyo by the end of this month and am planning to buy a new DSLR cam there (specifically, either D80 or D200). Would you have any idea if Tokyo prices are cheaper than in Singapore? Thanks so much! |

if you know where to look. not everything is cheaper, some are more expensive and some are on par. Do your research first.

hi aloyq! thanks for the link! it's very helpful. But they say that for cameras bought in japan, only japan warranty applies. Does nikon not issue an international warranty card or something that covers many countries?
thanks again! |

u're welcome!
sad but true. What they say is absolutely right. can't claim warrenty for the camera body if you are outside of japan. hope u will still be in time to take shots of the cherry blossoms when u are there for your hol they are really nice subjects to take pictures of ![]() Last edited by aloyq; 5th May 2008 at 01:28 PM. |

Hey, I'm actually on an exchange programme in Japan now, and I've bought all my equipment (D40X double zoom kit, 16-85mm, accessories) here so far. I can confirm that you don't get international warranty for camera bodies if you buy here. But you can buy your lenses in peace.
![]() Just a tip, as mentioned above, not all the prices here are cheaper than Singapore. Also, don't go to the big shops like Bic Camera or Yodobashi Camera if you're looking for low prices - they are probably the most expensive and the point card system is useless for tourist shoppers - you need to hunt down the smaller shops around town. I do know of one shop in Shinjuku that offers far better prices than the aforementioned big chains but there may be cheaper places about, *maybe* in Akihabara (it's more of a games/manga heaven, I think). What the big shops are for: you can go there and try out the cameras on display, from D40 to D3. I popped by Bic Camera at Shinjuku West Exit (yes, there are two branches there!) today and played a bit with the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8, just for kicks. The cherry blossoms season is already long over in most parts of Japan now, so unless you head further north from Tokyo, I'm not sure if you can catch any! Happy shopping! Cheers |

hi zhaowei and kcuf2, thanks for the confirmation. I was hoping to get a body there (a D200 maybe) and some macro lens. Anyway, I'll check out those places you mentioned. I may not be able to catch the cherry blossoms though as my trip will still be at the end of this month, sigh.... but i'm sure there are a lot of other interesting sights and scenes to capture in tokyo, hehe.

but those smaller shops you need to speak some japanese or else, you are lost whereas in Yodobashi , some english is spoken , but they get the picture..... Going to small shops in Akihabara is quite daunting unless you got a japanese friend with you I guess its just the language....they look quite cosy , those small shops |

try going to map camera. i got my d40x with kit lens and sd card at 920 sgd last year nov. the pricing in singapore was still 1.3k sgd. they have a website too. www.mapcamera.com. try getting their 2nd hand lenses and bodies there. the shop does its own grading for the 2nd hand items. when buying items in japan, bring along your passport as u are entitled to 5% no tax. map camera is near shijuku.
