Other than faster explosure. Any difference in image quality with modified body vs IR filter, eg. B+W 093, Hoya R72, ...etc.
How about the cost difference? Thinking to convert my 30D (backup body) to IR. The 77mm IR filter seems not cheap as well ~200. Thanks for advices. |

should not have image quality differences.
costs - depends on the variety of lenses you use to shoot ir. if you use a lot of different lenses with different filter threads sizes, then it will possibly be more economical to convert to ir in the long run - due to the huge amount of ir filters you have to buy, and yes, 77 mm is very expensive. on the other hand, you lose the ability to shoot normal exposure with a body. one thing to note - after conversion you cannot do long exposures. this can be desirable for flowing water. |

Thanks. I do have a 58mm IR filter for my G9 and I love it a lot. However, when it comes to Dslr, it's not easy for composition as the viewfinder is basically black out, and I seriously need a tripod with more than a trial to get a decent photo. Since my 30D sit in the dry cabinet most of the time, just think to convert it for IR hobby. Anyway, I think I will get a 77mm B+W 093 IR filter so that I can use my wide angle lens on that. And seems my 5D has better sensitivity than the 30D. hee....hee...... Thanks a lot!!!
