Default Olympus C-2040 : Upgrading of firmware

1) Is it a lot better in terms of perf. and quality after upgrading?

2) Do I have to pay for it?

3) Where to send it and normally how long does it takes?

ps: Owners of this camera : Can post some before/after pics?

Thanks!

1. Yes, it reduce the Hot Pixel for Night Shot.
2. Free while still under warranty.
3. Send to Oly SGP Office here http://www.e.olympus.com.sg/web/home/home.nsf/HmDigi
4. This is not upgrade of firmware since our firmware number remain the same. It is a re-mapping of hot pixel problems.

Do it ASAP so that u can start taking better pix.....

There's a noticeable improvement whne taking nite shots wif all those pesky hot pixels gone!!!

I suspect that besides the remaping, the new firmware is a NR version though the version # is the same.

At least in my case for my C-2100uz...

solid man, after the upgrade, seems like it has NR built in now, even at ISO400 and 16sec, the noise is to much much lesser.

there is a difference in firmware version for mine.

i think what Jayan said is true, there seems to be NR now.

with my experiment after the upgrade. these pictures are not noise reduced in Photoshop, its in original.

No, unlike other brands, Olympus has no downloadable firmwares on the Internet that we can do the upgrade ourselves.

You'll have to bring your DC back to the Olympus Service Centre. The service if free within warranty period, but will be chargeable after the warranty period.
