    dunno whether this will work:

get a big backpack maybe those going for overseas backpacking kind and put your tripod in it.

they should not spotcheck and open your bag right?

No big bags allowed in capsule also.

You could try and take a small bean bag or one of the "pen" tripods. I know these seem very small and "usless" for an SLR, but they do work. Just find something to lean on and you will have all the stability you need. Hope this helps!

guys, lets analyze why you need a tripod.

big heavy lens, panning (tracking the subject), panning (for pano), time lasp photography (sequence shot of a flower blooming), long exposure etc.

now, you know the flyer turns 360deg in about 30min ie 0.2deg/sec. i assume most of us want to shoot cityscape from up and above.

daytime, the most push iso to 400, at f8, using 24-50mm lens (=in FF), even shooting at 1/30 sec for sunset shot hand hold is not a probem with correct holding technic.

night time, with iso100, f8, typical exposure time is 4-5sec. so that means about 1deg rotation in the flyer. so now, do you think tripod is going to help?

With modern digital SLRs capable of clean (relatively noiseless) results at ISO 1600 and a capable wide angle lens of f/4 or bigger, a tripod nor mono is not really needed. Besides, most night urban scenery scapes are shot at ISO 200- 400 (give or take) because you do not need that high an ISO to handle the extremely intense urban lights.

At worst, and if you really need to anchor a cam, use an X-clamp or other similar clamps.

watch out for reflection when shooting through the glass panels of the capsule.

use cpl in the day is ok, since shutter speed is still high, but shoot at a angle about 60deg from the glass panel for max effect.

but during the night, as the shutter speed is already low, dont use cpl, try to put the lens against the glass panel, best if you use a rubber hood as it is flexible enough for you to angle your camera while preventing stray light from entering through the contact edge between the hood and glass panel.

i must confess, i have not been inside the capsule and dont plan to (unless its a treat, find ticket too ex). all suggestions here are base on experience and logic.

I brought my tripod in before. Not sure if they change the rules now. I went there on March which is before the official opening.
Anyway, I didn't manage to get a lot of nice pics tough, photos are mostly blur due to low light condition and very hard to focus

Well I think I'd rather take pictures of the flyer then take pictures inside the flyer. There's not much to see IMO, just construction...construction...and more construction.. wait for the IR and dam to be finished.. =D

Acutally the DHL balloon is a better place if solely for photography purpose.

I brought my giant bag and tripod too......
    They never say anything.. hahaha....
I think it depend whether the capsule is crowded or not.
That day I went. including my wife, baby and myself... there are only 8 of us in the capsule.
    So tripod no problem....

Erm, if there's bars in the flyer pods, I'd recommend the Gorrilapods. They're not tripods!
