Default Knight's Photo at Chinatown Point

I honestly thought such shops did not exist any more (well, okay, there's Ruby Photo).

Cycled down there to print some 8R's for the GE Life competition. Decided to try it out after Wolfgang's ringing endorsement.

The boss (Titan) is amazing. He notices my bicycle parked outside, so asks me to bring it into the tiny shop and closes the door. This is so that I can go behind to the print machine and indicate my preferences while he adjusts the colour and exposure of the shots I want printed, on the spot.

The machine is awesome. Adjusts exposure by as many stops as you like, as well as corrects colour balance. Probably makes Julienne fries as well. Anyway.... I think I'll throw away my Photoshop now. Or maybe it's just the experienced machine operator, whose fingers fly over the touchscreen and makes magic with my photos. Anyway, while we're waiting 15 minutes for the prints, we have a nice chat about how to calibrate stuff, how to make sure you get the best output, etc. Seems he's an avid photographer as well. The best kind of person to develop your prints, don'tcha think?

When the prints are ready, he sees that I'm only carrying a waistpouch (and not a backpack, because I did not expect to be able to get the prints within 15 minutes). He insists on taping up the envelope with TWO layers of cardboard backing to protect the "precious photos".

The prices are also very reasonable. 6 bucks for 8R prints. 4R prints are 35 cents to 50 cents each depending on quantity. No handling charge. And they are having a promotion - flat 50 cents for 5R prints, regardless of quantity. You can also print with a white border, if that is to your taste.

Hi Streetshooter

50cents per 5R - applies to digital prints only or to neg prints as well?

just curious - you were printing from digital, ya?

Thanks

Digital? If so, does he have a profile for the machine?

Yes, digital. He did mention something about a profile, maybe you can call and ask him personally.

From what I gather, it's a new service by Kodak labs called Kodak Express, where they can adjust your photos and so on.

I'm definitely going to drop him a batch of prints straight from the camera and see how they turn out. If they pass muster, I can say goodbye to my days of adjusting curves and so on. Just crop and sharpen and send it in.

When you travel too and fro, you gotta factor in the transport costs too.
Unless you drive, of course

since noticed you stay in Katong,
want to recommend a fuji shop

they are one of the newer fuji technology show case shop... something like that.

near marine parade there, called..... digipro. they have 2 computers on the side where you can do your editing, and when you hit print (probably need the girl to do that), the image will be sent to their machine to be printed. so you can see the print, then do adjustment again and see.

they have have a profile that you can download.

I've never used them before, just passing the infomation.

I had a similar experience with another shop near my workplace, and thought I can stick to it once & for all. Of course, if they're good, news spread and business picked up and inevitably they had to hire assistants ... then QA issues start to emerge...

Anyway, back to print labs. This Digipro was brought up a couple of times and I think the profile support is probably the best thing a print lab can offer. I think the offstone exhibition prints were done by them, so I think they know their stuff...

Yippee! This is great, very near my workplace so I can go down during lunch hour. What are the opening hours/days? I called a minute ago but no one picked up the phone - closed on Mondays?
