Default Experience with photo storage devices that can play video too

Anyone using photo storage devices that can also play video?
Such as Vosonic VP 8360, Digital Foci Picture Porter Elite, Wolverine ESP, etc?
Vosonic VP8860 is coming out this month (supposedly) and the specs look good!
http://www.vosonic.com/product.php?P...&kind=1&id_1=9

Those who have used such devices, I would like to ask what is the transfer speed from the memory cards as it is often not listed under the specs.

i just clicked on the link you provided in post #1 and in the third paragraph:

High speed data back up from memory cardsVP8860 supports to copy files from memory cards to the internal hard drive directly (No need PC). You can backup your pictures on the memory cards anytime, anywhere during your trip. The transfer rate from 1GB CF card (with support of the Ultra DMA protocol) to HDD can be up to 10MB/sec.

I don't have experience with the recent Vosonic models (my last Vosonic was the VP-2060 or XDRIVE II) but am curious as to why you want a Portable Storage Device to play video. To me, it is just a nice to have feature. The most important feature of a PSD is the speed of backing up my media. You can always play video on your camera or video camera.

The only reason I will carry a PSD with me is when I do not have a PC with me during a road trip and to ensure I have a backup of what I have on my memory cards. Usually, I will carry enough CF for the trip so I won't be deleting pictures to get more space during the road trip.

I do have experience with Nexto and Hyperdrive PSD. These are two of the faster PSD in the market at the moment.

Nexto eXtreme (PATA) have demonstrated to have a transfer speed of 25MB/S for CF and 15MB/S for SD. (Their claim on CF is 30MB/S).

Well, your first question would be same as asking someone why he would want to buy a multimedia viewer. I would like something I buy to have multiple uses instead of being limited to just one use. If I buy a PSD that can only work as a PSD, I would only be using it on trips... and how many trips can a person do in a year?? If I shoot around Singapore, my memory card will be enough space and I will transfer data when I get back home... all within a day... no need to bring the PSD around. I would like to be able to view videos when taking the bus/mrt, etc... so having the video function would make my PSD more useful. However, my primary purpose is for using it to store and backup photos so if the useability for this is compromised by having the video feature, then I'd rather forsake it. I've read the specs, as someone posted before and noticed the slower transfer speed. I'm not sure how slow or how fast that is in operation which is why I started this link to try to find out feedback from other users.

i have not used a vosonic or any of the brand names. i use a china-made personal multimedia player. it's primarily function is a PMP so there's no card slots built into it but it has OTG built in so i can connect a thumbdrive or a card reader to the supplied cable and the OTG will prompt me to copy the contents over. unlike vosonic, it's one way. i can collect but not provide through the OTG.

anyway, the player was chosen because it has a large 4.3inch display and you can use any IDE HDD up to 160gb capacity.

i don't have any actual timings as i let it download and backup while i was doing other stuff when i am on tour. and due to it's large capacity, i can use it as an external HDD for my laptop when needed.

I use an Epson P3000 40GB. It's quite expensive given that it only has 40GB of space. However, it supports both SDHC and CF cards, RAW files, reads EXIF info, shows histogram etc. Nice 4" screen too.
